Kinda sorta off topic since it pertains to my son's '78 Honda Hawk II. Does anyone have a source to rebuild speedos and tachs? The speedo is now on the fritz and based upon the performance of the tach it looks like it is headed south shortly. I found a guy in Philly who does Jap gauges but he wants $500 a pop! Way over budget. Any thoughts?

Mike

What gauges did he service for you, and what did that cost? Curious as I have a few needing repair also, and my fingers are not as nimble as they were 50 years ago

The gauges on my triple and the tach on my XS650.
Here's the tach pics before and after. The black surround in the after pic looks better than it shows photographed.
As for price I don't recall but I believe the tach was not working correctly.

NICE! I remember thinking that your gauges looked really good Jim - and now we know why.

Um if anyone knows of a good Smiths gauge overhaul repair guy. .

Tach is actually pretty good yet, the speedo a bit flighty, prone to mood swings..

....maybe the speedo fluid is leaking.....
......just asking.

Jim:
Thanks for the lead. I contacted him and he advised that he only does gauges for Kawi triples and K1/KZ bikes.
Mike
I apologize. He did repair my Tach but he made one good one out of two bad ones not a refurb of my original as I remembered.
Too bad.

Experiment with the mounting. Both my clocks swung so xs-essively the needles broke off, and the cure was replacing those rubber dampers under the little acorn nuts with new ones from Yamaha
