Well the brake light does work...but both the front lever and rear pedal require a herculean effort to get to brake light to light up....under normal braking it just is not coming on...So my friends following have told me...
Is it just an adjustment to the brake light switch?

Well, you can adjust the rear switch, but not the front. I guess that would partially solve the problem. The rear switch is double nutted onto it's mounting bracket. The double nuts allow you to move it forward or back, placing it where needed so the attached spring pulls out the plunger enough when you step on the brake pedal. Just be careful tightening those 2 nuts. The switch body is only plastic so over-tightening the nuts will break the switch in half, lol. Just snug them up .....

Before replacing, first I'd try renovating the original. Remove it from the lever perch, spray it down real good with some electrical contact cleaner, and "work" the pin in and out multiple times. Maybe that will flush it out and clean it out good enough to get it working properly again.

You can actually disassemble the rears and clean up all the inside parts, the contacts in particular.

Correct adjustment on the rear switch is easy to achieve but critical. I spent a day looking for an electrical gremlin that was, in fact, and incorrectly adjusted brake switch that activated the circuit even when it wasn't in use. Two turns with a spanner fixed the issue. The SE has the switch in a vertical position which makes it a bit harder to access. Be careful, I have broken them using a heavy hand.
Front switches of Jim's type, are dirt cheap so, clean it up by all means but consider an $8 part as backup. I use the after market version and have had no issues.
Cheers
