Pete, thank you for the travelogue. Looked up Erieau, just the kind of place I like to ride to.

Superficial similarities to Sandbanks in Poole on the English South Coast. Used to ride there quite often when I lived in the Hampshire area - seaside, parking, toilets, cafés and chip shop. So all you need for a Sunday morning ride. Plus, plenty activity to watch as the chain ferry slowly clanks to and fro to Studland.

The most expensive piece of real estate, some say in the UK others say in the world. Picture borrowed from that internet:

A very pretty spot indeed Raymond and very similar to Erieau and nearby Point Pelee.

Well, it looks as though I had my ride in the nick of time - this is the scene in our backyard this morning....

Sorry for digressing from the thread topic - this is a place I used to ride to.

David, we are lucky enough to live in a very safe country, we don't get cyclones, crocodiles, earthquakes, poisonous spiders, swarms of locusts, plagues of frogs, volcanic eruptions, malarial mosquitos or anything like that. In fact, the worst plague we get is probably traffic wardens and even they are hardly a worry for bikers.

Since Sandbanks became fashionable, house prices rocketed. I took a look yesterday after posting the above picture - there is a seafront property for sale just now, a nice enough house if you can stump up an offer in excess of £12 million. But anyhow, here's an internet picture of the chain ferry:

We're short on biblical plagues Ray but we cover just about everything else. Don't forget sharks, some bloody big snakes of the poisonous variety, cone shells and box jellyfish. Most Aussies never see too many of these hazards in the flesh but, in North Queensland, cyclones are common. A category five cyclone can generate winds of over 180miles per hour. I've suffered cyclonic winds where you have to cover your ears and conversation in your lounge room is impossible below a shout.. I've seen blows where the structure snaps to attention under the strain and you can't believe that the building can take any more - sometimes it doesn't. Huge seas can develop, even in shallow lakes and the erosion would eat the foundations from those multi-million dollar buildings. That's quite common here on the coast.
Sandbanks looks particularly beautiful and I would love to see it but, it's fortunate that you don't get our weather. The Americans on the Gulf would think the same. A remarkable indication of the diversity of this beautiful planet and the reason why we all like the pics and stories on this thread - this is where we ride!
Cheers
P.S. Apologies if I sound like a smartarse - just giving my opinion.

Well, winter is almost here in Northern Virginia so today I took another step towards preparation. I broke out my heated gear, put it on and tested the connection on the Triumph; all works well. The temp is in the 35*F range and at 85ish mph the wind chill must be in the teens.

It was a most exhilarating ride and felt awesome. Next time I might even turn the heated gear on...

Never made it to 40 today but took the Shadow to town.

The Sauk County Historical Society just bought the farm Baraboo Train Station, back in it's hayday Baraboo was the Central Office and maintenance yard for the Chicago to Minneapolis RR line, employing 300 people, the whole story here https://saukcountyhistory.org/baraboodepot
They just busted out the cement blocks that had covered the upper windows on the end
and replaced them with plexiglass to let in some light. They are now bracing floors and walls to allow workers to cover the building with a temporary roof. Water has been leaking though the roof for twenty years. It's going to be a big job. The SCHS also owns the red brick house across the street.

That looks like it would be a cool historical building to re purpose. Here in Arizona I know of a couple that had been converted to restaurants that were pretty cool. Your Honda looks nice, the only problem with a feet forward riding position on a cold day is the wind whistles up your pant legs!

Tru dat! I had on my my riding pants with velcro cuff closures. was a slow short trip. :lmao:

I see an old building like that and I think, "what a great spot for a brewery". Am I the only one?
Our little downtown is dominated by 1.) A new jail and 2.) the old chicken processing plant with the attendant smells.
And even so, your little town is THE hotspot in all of Georgia right now.

At dawn this morning it was 37 degrees, by 10:00 am it was a sunny 50 degrees, I threw my gear on and headed out. I rode to the town of Cave Creek, I’m sorry I didn’t take any photos today, it was the first time I’ve been for a ride in about two months and today was just for fun. A 90 mile round trip and a beautiful day! I did get off the bike today for a short hiking trail walk. I saw something interesting, see if you see it.

Fake saguaros. In the photo at the top, it’s the one with the Boulder at the base ( also fake ) and the second photo, it’s the two on the left. These were on a ridge top , over looking the town. Most real cactus don’t have signs like this on their sides! :laugh2:

I’ll be back soon with better ride content. Until then.......:bike:

Well sumbich...a camo cell antenna. I like it. :geek:

We do it here with fake palms. They are the Godzilla of the palm world - some standing 60' high and looking like a prop from a "Dr Who?" episode, (did you North Americans get that show?). At least those saguaros look kind of real - these palms stand out like a shark in your bathtub.
I, too went for an urban ride this morning. Too hot to stop for photos - 30 degrees at the seaway at 10:00am. Waiting for traffic lights was a sauna even in a T-shirt. Bikes got a bit of a backfire particularly when I throttle off. Have tightened the exhaust and manifolds and can't find any leaks so, it's off wth the carbies I suppose. Just started our annual simmer break so thank God my garage is relatively cool.
Cheers

So county was out salting today in anticipation of some glop this weekend. The challenge is riding tween the brine stripes. Out by the Wisconsin river.

30 miles at 50 degrees, with ATG, pleasant enough. Kind of an interesting old wood silo. Usually wood silo staves are vertical.

74 degrees here so I rode about 45 minutes each way for an investor meeting in an LLC I have been asked to be a part of. Good day to get the FJR out.
The last time I got on it I had to "upgrade" to the XS650 due to the FJR's flat rear tire. No such problem this time just a great leisurely ride there and back.

A couple of months ago I bought a "car". It's like a motorcycle except you're still inside. Totally crazy.
