GS650E

You 850 guys always seemed to be the most partisan GS owners. I never owned one, but they were reckoned by many to be the pinnacle of everything good about the line.

...and that is because the 850 truly was an excellent motorcycle. Superb seat, steady handling, powerful brakes, smooth and quiet powerhouse engine and “throw it off a cliff” reliability and toughness....what’s not to like?

That is one good looking machine.
I'd be tempted to throw on a replica 1000S bikini fairing, but that's just a fetish of mine...

I think the colour enhances the look. When i was looking around and seen the other colours they didn't have that oomph the black and red seems to.

The fairing or a shield of some sort went through my mind today when i was thinking about the frosty mornings over there.

Yet to find out, (no this is not an ask Kane), the power on the bike, but on the review i was reading the 650E needs to above 4000 to start to get the torgue working.........

No problem, thanks for asking. I will post feedback on this.

In the US the chain drive 750 and 1000 sport oriented models's are achieving collector status, this is generally true of all "big four" 70's 80's bikes, shaft drive models, less than 750 and "special type" models not so much. So if you buy, do it to ride and enjoy not as a collectable.

to give you an idea what some of these smaller than 750's are selling for.............it is a Honda 4 and very low kilometers and good nick............better than my Suzi...????

$12,000 and sold

Yet no bids on this GS1000G

Re: the Honda CB500, that is much much less bike than your Suzuki GS650E. It is a generation back with much less capable brakes and not nearly the handling or comfort you’ll get and quite down on engine power too.

RE: GS1000G - now THAT would be a darned nice bike. The “G” at the end of the designation means that t is a shaft driven bike and that coupled with the 1 litre engine would make for a very fast, quiet and comfy long hauler.

I don’t know Aus pricing but $12.5K AUD for the Honda sounds just waaaayyy silly to me and even $6500 for the Suzuki seems a tad high.

If pricing were based on quality and design, GS prices would be far outpacing CBs and KZs IMO. CBs have the "original" advantage. KZ's still have the Z1 afterglow. Not many problems with a KZ though. Hondas of this era always seems to be a step behind to me, but they had the name recognition.

Other than the XS650, it seems like there aren't a whole lot of Yamahas from the 70's commanding money. They shot themselves in the foot with the TX750 oil problems, the XS750 transmission problems and the XS500 cylinder head cracking problems. It seems like it took them up until the XS11 to get their ducks in a row, and even it had the second gear issue. Their 2 strokes are a different matter.

Yea on the Honda as well. Usually a restored one will be up around the 7-8000 and a good one around 5-6000 a good rough'y can b around 3-4000
I'm surprised at the price of the 1000G. seen them way more than that usually around the 8,000 or more. ridiculous silly the prices wanted over here. Unfortunately not what i am after. to hungry on fuel and just to big..............what i am after, is if a cheapie comes up and i can flick it off and make a $. Missed out on a 700 Deville a couple of months ago. knew it was a good price, just didn't know enough about them and by the time i had made up my mind it was to late.

Yea on the difference between the Honda and GS650. Been doing a lot of research on the GS650E. only 2 years, 81 and 82. and they are quite sort after and with a few mods they are considered to be up with the 850 and some say they will out do the 1000 through he dragon............i wont be going there, but it is an entertaining thought to get another set of barrels and bump it to a 740.

Found out the GS650E has been kept and stored in a heated garage...........although i'm sure this will have to have some money spent on it, (brake lines, tires), i'm happy with it.

Good to hear, I just got a 1982 GS850G for $200.

On the ST1100, frankly, I’d hold out for an ST1300. The earlier 1100 bikes had carbs and alternator issues. The 1300 had EFI and all kinds of electrical generating capacity.

Finally get to see the GS650Ez. Bought Dec 27 2020

Wine country. The hills in the background are called, Wither hills. ...............Wither something will grow on them or not...............dry and baren in the summer, covered in snow in the winter.

You're taking it home? I assume you're riding it here?

I retired last week. This trip is a get to know my grandchildren. Out of 6, only had physical contact with 2 of them. 3 live in NZ, the other 3 live in Brisbane, Australia. Going to divide my time between the 2 then some R&R :zzz:back in North Queensland before the next round:bike:

Bike stays in NZ Marty. I intend to go over there, (from Aus) at least 2 times, (working on 3 times) a year for at least 3 weeks at a time. Bike will be my transport. This area has some beautiful bike riding country varying from mountain ranges to coastal. The hills in the background are the northern end of the southern Alps running the full length of the South Island of NZ. Not volcanic, where 2 plates collide

Green arrow roughly points to my Son's House. Has a nice 2 acre block.

It is one of the many beautiful places in NZ Pete
