Hello everyone,

My son Antony was at work yesterday when the ladder he was on collapsed and he fell upon it. He has five broken ribs and was stable after a transfer from one hospital in Denver to a trauma center. Being a former Cav Scout, he was toughing it out on the phone with last night telling me not to worry and that it is not a big deal. Well, I know from personal experience with two different flailed chest injuries in the past that it is a big deal.

So, if you pray, please do so and if not, at least send positive wishes towards Denver. His daughter will be one year old in two weeks and he will need lots of strength to handle her wanting to climb all over him when he gets home in a few days.

Prayers for your son Boog. Rib injuries are one of the worst....always takes a long time to heal. Just when you think you are better, you sneaze or cough and your body quickly reminds you of the injury. Sounds like the injuries could have been much worse with a ladder collapse and all.

Thank you all brothers for your words, prayers and wishes. I just spoke with Antony a moment ago and his spirits are high. And try as I might, I could not prevent myself from making him laugh. Our relationship is maybe a tad bit more than just a regular father and son. He spent a year in Iraq and came home a different man. He and I are brothers in that sense and most of the family thinks they understand what combat is like but don't really. And because of that we share some dark humor that others in the family don't get. I will have to work on that till he heals...
He mentioned his physical therapist came in to access him this afternoon and said he cannot go home yet. She will re-access in the morning. I asked if she was pretty and he oh he!! yes she is. I said dang, you're screwed now son. The prettier they are, the worse they hurt you. At least that is my experience. He laughed a little too hard.

The prettier they are, the worse they hurt you.
I think you meant to say the worse you hurt.
When I was in the hospital a dozen or so years ago with pneumonia a nurse came in every 15 minuets the first night or so to listen to my breathing in my chest. Her concerned look on her face concerned me. She wasn't the prettiest nurse I've ever met. By morning I was smitten, she had a soft touch. It was nice to know that someone that didn't know you cared. Never saw her after the first night, but have never forgotten her.

Sorry to hear of your son's injury, knowing that he has been transferred to a Trauma Center has to be comforting because he will be receiving the best of care. Well wishes are sent to him........

Only once have i had a mishap with a ladder. In a rush and up i went and the bottom of the ladder slipped out...........just no time to think of what is happening or going on.......one second on the way up and the next in a heap on the ground tangled up in the ladder......Not hurt except pride but i was amazed at the speed it happened, and lack of time to register and act and being able to do something.........like the blink of an eye..........
