Mannulus Mechanica (build thread)

Is there room to weld bungs on the tank... or is it gonna sit a little higher?
I like the look by the way.

It already has the bungs on it. It will actually sit up the backbone a little, it just kept sliding back down to the rocker cover while I was taking the picture.

Decided to go a different route with the handlebars, wanted a pair of bootleggers from TC Bros but the 7/8 with 100mm riser spacing were only available in black. Did a little digging and found out the company that makes them for TC bros sells a chrome version through Amazon. So I picked a set up and got my speedo mounts made up too.

I forget... we in mockup... or building a rat bike? :sneaky:

Definitely just in mock up. To me "rat bike" has really just become a blanket term/excuse for poor work. Having said that its not going to be a show bike either. It'll be clean, painted well, have a fair amount of custom fab and be as "safe" as a rigid can be and still look cool.

Hey Fletch, I might have the rubber caps for those forks.... might. Want me to keep an eye out for 'em, or you have other plans?

Jim, I’m going to turn some plugs out of clear lucite and polish em.

Ain't that the truth? I was working on seat pan, rust, paint removal an foam repair in by the wood stove yesterday cuz no way, no how, I'm working out in the garage.

I wish I had a wood stove (in my shop). I would loose a lot less time in the winter. Even if I were comfortable its too cold to MIG weld or braze sheet metal without significant pre-heating right now and I'm not into wasting oxy-acyt just because the weather refuses to cooperate.

I’m liking the lines of this bike, it’s coming together! :)
Thanks @Mailman, I had a very clear vision when I started this bike, I have changed almost everything about that original vision :D. What is that about a plan is just so you have something to deviate from? I'm pleased with the way its coming together, I'd be a lot more pleased if I could bang out some panels and get the "oil tank" formed up. I've got some new silicate free bronze alloy brazing rods and new flux I'm itching to melt.:hump:

Well it’s finally above freezing again, but not by much. My front MC & clutch lever showed up. They are cheap-ish Chinese junk but they will serve their purpose for the time being, clutch has an interlock that I don’t see myself using but other than that they are purtyfull.

That old police car spotlight is just way too cool! Nice work on the fender mount and kickstand too! What are your plans for finished appearance, are you wanting it to look like an old survivor with lots of patina? Or are you gonna do the whole paint and polish thing?

It's going to be somewhere in between the two. Whatever can be polished will be polished but nothing will be re-chromed. Most of it should clean up well enough. Paint will be done to the best of my ability. It won't be a trailer queen by any stretch of the imagination but it also will not be a "rat bike".
