Got an open mind? Consider this.

So MaxPete, Are we influencing the rotation of the earth? A Nova TV special did recently imply that using earths gravity to "sling shot space exploration vehicles" do infact slow the rotation a very very small amount. But still !
That maybe concerning?

I could use an extra (productive) hour in my days. A nice even 360 day year would be convenient.
Work out that math for us Pete, give you something to occupy all that idle time..

Now - about all those wind turbines that Raymond was talking about - won't they create so much drag that the earth will eventually slow down and stop turning?
I have a hunch all the buildings we have built around the world create a million times more drag than the wind turbines that have been built.

^The difference is buildings are not attached to the ground. It is more accurate to say they are sitting on the ground. OTOH wind turbines must actually be attached to the Earth, which causes significant slowing of the Earth's rotation. In the northern hemisphere right now days are getting longer. It is very easy to measure.

See GLJ you aren't thinking this through!

...and that is absolutely correct Machine!

As I say, "like it or not".
Apparently, methane production by the world's livestock causes more ozone damage than the internal combustion motor but, there are few calls to ban cattle and sheep and, we have to do something about global warming - again, like it or not.
Got a hat like that Mike from my last trip to Vietnam. Cool hat but you don't want to wear it around Vets - they can get upset and I respect them too much to alienate them. I was one of the lucky ones who missed the draft call up.
Cheers

Found it here:

CIVIBIKES 48V 750W Bafang Vintage Electric Bike

They claim a realistic performance for a change.
Mine is a 750W hub motor, which tops out at around 30mph, so close to their figure.
I built the thing in 2010 / 11, basing it on an MTB I had kicking around for years and fitted a set of front suspenders and a fatter rear tyre, so that makes quite a difference to comfort.
Powered it with Bosch 36V battery packs. I've never over-volted it, and I suspect it would tolerate 42V or higher, but it would be an expensive mistake if I'm wrong.
Anyway, with 15Ah of batteries in, it will (would) do around 30 miles max range. If I was only nipping into the nearest village I would usually just drift along with the motor doing all the work, and of course range is reduced. If I ventured further I'd kick in the pedal-assist mode, which extended battery life.
At some point I'll get another, neater, battery solution, now that prices have come down a lot and for the same as I spent before I could have double the range.

mmm .. subject made for a lot of replys in a very short time .. personally think they are the future like it or not , they will improve a lot fairly quickly , at the moment wouldnt buy one but would definitly like to take one for a ride

Sweet little old me wants to hear more about solid state batteries. Perhaps even a rant or two....

PS. Nice review video gggGary.

I believe I read something about their disposal being an issue and the fact that they aren't viable north of 40 degrees lat or something like that.

But sellers in the UK and Europe don't seem too put off that they ain't viable north of 40 degrees lat. We're about 56°N where I live and there's plenty of panel-covered roofs.

On the disposal thing, don't know. Have heard similar rumours but in all these new technology things, doctrine seems to win over facts. They wouldn't tell us something like that before we buy. Likewise on the environmental cost of making them. Or the fact that efficiency drops off over time - buyers seem to believe a roof covered with PV panels will give them free electricity for ever.

Two mini-rants, if I may? Sick of people wanting to save the planet - what they mean is, save us. The planet will be fine, and will continue to do just fine long after we're all history.

And sick of people who really should know better yabbering on about reducing carbon. Or even talking about the amount of carbon created by vehicles. You know they mean CO2 but carbon and CO2 are not synonymous. Fully sympathetic with their arguments but on a scientific subject people really need to be careful with terminology or it weakens their position.
