Ultrasonic Cleaning Thread

Do the Zep and Simple Green products clean off varnish and other deposits left on carb parts from old evaporated gasoline and especially gasoline with ethanol?
I'll be doing carburetors in the next few weeks. The Zep citrus cleaner did a very good job on my engine parts and there was no sign of caustic reaction with aluminum alloy. I expect what @OHRider is using is more effective, but at higher price point.

Thats what I have been using for the last 10 years. Im on my 2nd gallon. Its also what our local injector service guy uses to clean clogged fuel injectors.
 
Resurrecting an old thread. Well, it would seem that the general consensus these days is the best way to clean, for instance, carburetors is an ultrasonic bath. So I have splashed out, so to speak.

Six litre bath - about 12 x 6 x 6", the basket is slightly smaller than that, but should be plenty of room for a carb, or pistons, or sundry other engine parts.

Been reading up on solution to use. People like coin collectors seem to go for 50:50 white vinegar and a few drops of wash-up liquid. Some people use water and a spoonful of baking soda. But I've erred on the side of prudence and ordered some carb and machine parts cleaning solution:

Stated to be safe on brass, aluminium and other reactive metals. 5 litres, dilute 10:1, should last for ages. Unless I keep thinking of things that need ultrasonic cleaning. Or Mrs does . . .

You're gonna love it Raymond. I’ve worn one out, I’ve used it so much! 👍🏻
 
I use mine all the time too. I also bought the purpose specific cleaning solution from the vendor of the machine. Your 6L tank is nice.
I’m sure you’ve read this but to save on the solution you use, for small parts, fill the tank with water and put the small parts you are cleaning in a zip lock bag filled with the cleaning solution. Drop the bag in the tank and you’re good to go.

Nice one! You're gonna love it. I use mine all the time, great for carbs!
 
HaHa first read that as friends don't let their friends soak in vinegar - and can quite see why! Caution well taken.

Bosco - hadn't read that, good tip.

I assume that after using the cleaner, if the solution is not too filthy, I can leave it in there and use it again?

I don’t know what products are available in Scotland, here I use a 50-50 mix of water and simple green. It’s a non caustic cleaner. And I save the solution and reuse it , I just pour it back in a gallon jug and the sediment settles to the bottom. Note: this does not clean internal passageways, I still use carburetor spray cleaner and shoot that through all the tiny openings , followed by a blast of compressed air.

They don’t shine like this , straight out of the cleaner. They have a more flat looking appearance, these have been buffed up with a Dremel and assorted brass wire brushes. 😉
