My 81 has a clutch switch at the lever and plugs in at the headlight.
But the schematic shows no switch for 81’s.
I’m a bit baffled.

Are you sure it's an 81? My '81 does not have that switch. My '83 does.

For sure an 81 (4N9....).
That being the case, I suggest you look at the '82 wiring diagram for this. There could have been a change during production.

Sure makes me wonder. Then again my harness is a mess.
If you want to PM me, I have the '83 on the lift. The '81 is off site. I'm sure I have the '83 diagram as well. I can help you this evening.

I have two different schematics and neither shows that. Figures.
I was only questioning it as just like getting rid of extra things like that.
I probably will bypass it and be done with it.

Yes, the clutch switch and it's associated relay came along in '81. Not sure what diagrams you were looking at but the one I have from the '81 factory manual clearly shows it. The relay is located under the right side cover just above the big starter/headlight safety relay .....
To eliminate the circuit, you will need to remove both the clutch switch and the relay. But, since power to the starter solenoid runs through the relay, you will need to jumper those two wires together in the harness plug (the two R/W wires) to restore starter function .....
