Whats your weather right now?

Raymond, weather is fine in Wales but temperature is staying around 1 - 2 Celsius. Tonight will be the cold one and you may see -7 Celsius or lower. Keep an eye on the weather because there is the potential for a big snow storm to build in a couple of days - Beast from the East meets Atlantic Storm.

I've seen the warnings - look like the next lot might dump in the SW and Wales? Tonight predicted to be the coldest so far this year, possibly -18°C in the Highlands. No thaw till Sunday at the earliest. Then, we might see the rivers up!

Pic of my evening news weatherman's forecast for the next week. Got up to 12°f here today.... light snow. Will this never end....

Egads, they're showing similar single digits for my area down here for the same Sun-Mon timeframe. Gettin' a bit concerned. Lowest I've experienced down here is 18°F, and *that* caused some problems. Unsure of antifreeze, thinking that I may have to go out there every 4 hours and start the trucks, let 'em idle for 20-30 minutes. A nonstop routine for 2-3 days...!

Same thing happening on this side of the globe.
Big chunks of arctic air splittin' off the north pole.
Polar vortex.

Question: What kinda air rushes up there to replace what's leavin'?

And, how does that affect the price of rice?

The question about air flow to and from the Poles: The answer lies in the atmosphere's circulation patterns called Hadley, Ferrel and Polar Cells:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zpykxsg/revision/1#:~:text=1 of 4-,Global atmospheric circulation - Polar, Ferrel and Hadley cells,to low pressure and rainfall.

For example: At the Equator warm moist air rises and as it cools the moisture drops out as rain leaving cool dry air. This cool dry air is now more dense and drops back to earth about 30 Degrees either side of the Equator. This dry air gives rise to the desert zones either side of the Equator. The Poles also sit under a zone of High pressure being feed by cool sinking dry air from the Polar Cells.

As for the price of rice...I don't know :banghead:

The weather people sometimes show how the jet stream, moving West-East above the Atlantic, becomes displaced somewhat south by the increased size of the Polar air mass due to it being warmer. So the warm, wet airstream that would otherwise keep Britain warm misses us and instead we get the countervailing East-West wind from Siberia & Baltic.

In effect, Global Warming leads to increased probability of very cold winter weather in Britain.

Try explaining that to your neighbour as they hurry off to the newsagents on a cold morning muttering 'So much for Global Warmin', eh?'

I prefer the term Climate Change.

Today continues very cold, well below freezing and probably will be all day. But some of you in N America have it a lot colder.

28°F, heavy freezing rain.
Major problems out here.
County wide power outages.
Which means *no* heat, *no* water.
I had to prybar my way outta the house, prybar to get into the barn, prybar to get into the truck.
Thought my neighbors were shooting shotguns? At what? Nope, those are trees cracking and falling out there.
Switched off the mains, Switched off the well pump, packed the truck, drained water lines. White-knucled my way past fallen trees and ice, evacuated to town for now...
