Help requested from the socialist state of california...i need an emissions label for 1978 yamaha

Some input
I am used to deal with Socialists that does not get correction by anyone. Punch on the nose and yourself end in Jail.
I have used ..going to a second place and Got the bike approved. Without problems that was there at the First Place
In that case the seller of the Muffler was prepared to fix the paperwork needed..
So If this is a legit bike the paperwork is correct in both states .Just not the Sticker .There
I could go to the Main Yamaha dealer ..Here they have special connections and Cooperation with in this case the MOT
authorities. Dont ask how that happened but it is there .
I don't know how it works in your part of the World.

But here a Civil servant would not obstruct If the Yamaha dealer are beginning to ask Questions and explaining the situation.
He Civil servant would be scared ..Because if the Yamaha dealer .Who at times has a " Horse in the race " So to speak.
They might lose customers and business if their brand sales are affected by a low level Servant.
Can lead to harsh words here from the business owners.
He don't want that .. The Servant .. Getting that Phone call from the Supervisor.
But treading carefully is the best way .So it does not lead to Conflicts .
I have heard of imported bikes never getting approval .. Same engine but one year later than frame .. OUT

Here perhaps if you are lucky talking to the right person :The dealer perhaps can arrange a sticker or taking a picture of one to print out.
The sticker is there and everyone is happy no angry faces.

You seem quite set on the fact that somehow they are gonna be out to get you.

if some “smog nazi” is gonna be as hard as you think they are gonna be, I hate to break it to ya but they are gonna take one look at your bike and tell you to put it all back to stock cause it certainly doesn’t meet emission standards as it is.

I’m not sure where your from but you seem to hate the fact your in California. Turn off the news, get out of the city, it’s an absolutely beautiful place to be.

Good luck.

You seem to have an axe to grind. There is a way to register everything unless you are messing with vin’s. So do the homework and get it done.

I grew up in California. I was unable to register my '76 Bronco because I had a dual exhaust. Broncos came with a single exhaust. Never mind it had dual cats and the rest of the truck was bone stock and included all the functioning smog equipment.

This is for NEW bikes. You’ll see things like “50 state” bike. Meaning it meets Cali restrictions and even if it’s not a 50 state bike you can still bring them in.

but still no problems with older bikes.
Please see my reply below....a "new" bike can be 10 years old

I am assuming you were replying to another poster and not me. Therefore, I am Simply providing the following info. For you to consider if you want. When you look at the dmv's chart reference in the below, the blank sections are where you cant get the bike titled and registered. Yes, you may be able to regis. A bike, but I need to get title also. Anyway, here you go

If you are interested, all of this info is detailed on the DMV SITE at dmv.ca.gov.....look at section 12.135, google dmv form 31 (which is the form the CHP or DMV inspector fills out) and most importantly the chart that goes through the requirements for bikes from 1978 to present is in section 12.100

Hello, I am trying to be encouraged. My 1980 xj650 has been approved for new title and registration TWICE, and DMV has reneged it TWICE by mail, asking for more info. Currently they are now asking for this manufacturer emissions sticker, which is not there. And also this statement about liens? I thought that’s what CHP ran during inspection. And I turned in. It’s been out of the system for 20 years. This is ludicrous and infuriating but the point is…what do I do now, without this sticker? What do I say, how do I refute? Or comply? I don’t want to give up 😩 Thanks for any pointers.

As a guy that’s built many choppers in CA over decades and with lots of sketchy DMV experience I can tell you that’s incorrect. Just a misinformed employee.
You can go online and find exactly what’s required. If anything is asked for beyond that ask for a supervisor politely. I had transactions in four different states with DMV and CA is not bad. If they want the paper/decal on the neck that’s not required either as the neck is stamped.

Ask why they want lien paperwork as it’s not required. It may be flagged for something. I’m sure you can just write a statement saying there are no liens.

You can look up a photo of the sticker online and print one out. Or they may be for sale on line. Stick it behind the steering neck and say oops we must not have seen it.

Chp just checks it’s not stolen.

I think it’s on the inside of the left sidecover. Take the sidecover to the DMV. Or, move to Tennessee.

In 1976 the CHP inspector told me "I think it's a stolen motorcycle, and you'll be hearing from our people."
I continue to await them.
Fake it, just don't be dishonest...
And..well, when I go to DMV they won't accept the true stuff and they send me away. Once the bossman pulled a gun! (no chit!).. But When Mrs 40N takes the Same Stuff in, she comes out with good results.... This is a hint! Get a pretty gal to try in your place.

It appears it fell off, or never existed. Bike was already VIN verified and is a Cali bike. I don’t understand why I still need this. 😩

It had one when sold, they want to see it.

Print one, buy one. Stick it on and get it checked off.

Ca dmv is just hoops to jump through.

There are a lot of political reasons to not like California,

But out side the city - open your door and there are endless reasons to love the state.

You might find a reproduction decal. There's a good forum at XJBikes.com and a good vendor in XJ4Ever.com Don't give up too quickly.

Hahaha Now we are talking real crimes here Dirty Harry's brother at the DMV pulling out the six shooter
Make my Day --Trying to register a vehicle Hahahah Where did that go Cooperate fully and so

I once did not get through a set of Pipes .Being to loud .. 4 -5 men from the MOT inspection station on the yard They did not know what they was doing . Tight facial muscles I Would never get those pipes through no matter what paperwork I would produce.
No foul language or calling people names .
It was a question of their power not the technical facts which they refused to measure which was the rules.
I went to another station in a close by town ..and more or less drove through in first gear getting it approved .
Never again problems after that.

So I would look into that --- letting things cool down and then .With a white Shirt and Tie or so go to another town / office
Or maybe have a shop do it for you.

And yes Ladies gets a softer treatment Men don't want to be mean against Ladies or Children
That is part of Culture and Civilization
But motorcyclist --- Make my Day
