I need a few silly little bits for my '77 XS650 and wondered where anyone suggests I get them in the UK. If anyone has any bits they're happy to sell me, all the better - I'm not fussed about having brand new parts.

1 a domed nut to hold the speedo on.
2 a screw that holds on the timing cover.
3 some new rubber bits that the side covers sit on.

I don't recommend the rubber bits from Mike's, they're junk repops and fall apart in a few years. Especially steer clear of their footpeg rubbers, they're terrible, lol. Original rubber bits are best but unfortunately, those side cover tab rubbers are N.L.A. But, they do pop up on eBay quite often. The parts diagram lists two different ones. They are the same size but the rear one has an extra rubber lip on it. I don't like this one, it makes the cover more difficult to remove .....

Instead, I use two of the front covers. These are "plain" with no extra lip .....

For those alternator cover screws, Yamaha cheaped out and used screws that were too short. They don't reach in deep enough to fill and use all the available threads .....

The originals were 10mm long. For replacements, use longer 12's or 14's .....

These will better utilize all the available threads .....

I started out with just stainless Phillips replacements. I tried normal Allens but thought they protruded too much. I now use buttonhead Allens and like the look .....

I totally agree. I got some foot peg bushings and side cover ruber pieces new and wish I still had 40 yr old originals. Do you know where I can get nos for foot peg bushings and side cover rubber bits for 1980? Also I would get a nos drive chain if available.

Partzilla has them, a little pricey. Item #20. $24.66 each.
I bought a set from Mikes 2 years ago and they still seem fine. I coat them with high vacuum grease once a year.
I like OEM but could not bring myself to spend a $100 for a set of four when Mikes has them for less than $20 for a set of 4.
I'm sure OEM is better but 5 times better?

5 Twins : Fall apart in a few Years ? I see you are still branding oem literature and various
photo's as if you are the owner/author of them.

I watermark the stuff I crop and label.

Side cover rubbers are also still available from Yamaha. Try Partshark, they're cheaper than Partzilla.
