Daytona 500 runnin an infield course

what year go from stock body sheet metal?

For you folks looking for stock car racing, it seems you are looking for oranges in an apple cart.
NASCAR moved on from stock car racing decades ago, and moved to something like "stock appearing" in order to accommodate the influx of Big Money, advanced technologies, the audience's demand for higher speeds and the resulting safety demands.

But stock car racing didn't die; it has continued actively at smaller circle and road tracks.
There are 62 race tracks in New York State, for example, and at some a ticket is 10 bucks, or free if you're a senior citizen on saturdays.
Hot dogs, cheap beer, and lots of cheering for your neighbors on the track.

And you can actually run a car of your own on a shoestring budget.

And there is also vintage racing. The stock cars of yesteryear routinely show up at The Watkins Glen track near me.

I'm not very familiar with NAS car. What is an infield course?
What is an infield course

The correct term actually is Road Course or Road Circuit, a twisty paved racetrack.
Machine was referring to one of most famous, the road course at Daytona International which incorporates a large part of the oval track, plus a circuit in the center, the infield. Some call it a Roval.

Here is the oval track:

and here is the Roval.

It is very fast, and uses the steep "high banks" of the tri-oval.
Motorcycles, sportscars and NASCAR use the Roval.
As well as Karts; I raced the road course once in the early 80's. Karts can reach 140 mph on the high banks.

Wow that looks like it would definitely make for a different race.
NASCAR Cup is racing the Daytona Roval this coming sunday on FOX.

Even more interesting is the road course in California called Laguna Seca. It has the famous "Corkscrew" turn where you enter a blind left hand turn and then fall off a cliff 3 stories high in the second half of the turn:

Now that would be scary :yikes:...'cruising' at 140, sitting 3" from the track.
One inch, actually.
When running 2 engines, the speed at Daytona on the high banks was 140.
I usually ran one 100cc engine, and we were clocked at 125mph in 1983.

Here is a film done by a buddy in my class. Six racetracks are pictured, but you can tell you are at Daytona by the white wall on the left, and the big Daytona letters on the wall:

Cool stuff Jeff. Used to watch the carts at Silverstone back in the 70's. Was always amazed at the speed they'd reach.

My first Daytona 500 was 1982. I was working in the backstretch concession. On the green flag, I ran to the fence with everyone else. There's no way to describe 42 cars passing that close, bumper to bumper, door handle to door handle, and speed about 215 mph. It really does defy description. In subsequent years, I had tickets in the top of Weatherly Grandstand. I continued the concession gig for the Daytona 200.

Wow I forgot but caught the last 7 laps. How often do they do infield races? Do they change brakes during the race?

Yes, it was an interesting race today, glad you caught some of it. This year they increased the road courses to about 6 or 1/4 of the schedule, a big increase.
They don't change brakes, but you see that happening in the pits in Formula One, sportscar racing and sometimes in Indycar, which is my favorite form of racing. They will be starting on April 18.
You can catch schedules of all major forms of 4 and 2 wheeled racing at this website, which is updated daily:

I caught the finish of the race on YouTube. Very interesting to watch. Those who stopped for tires really reaped the benefits in the end. I was never a big road course fan in the Cup when I used to watch. But I got so tired of just watching the line up and follow round and round in the last 10 years that I lost interest. Watching this road course was fun to watch again.

They are returning to Watkins Glen this year. This is always a good road course race, IMHO.

Ok I see, there are a few NASCAR, NASCAR camping.....,NASCAR cup, and NASCAR Xfinity. Which one has most infield, road races?

The dude who runs the website fills it in progressively, every few days. Go to the top and click on the whole yearly schedule links to see the full schedules and track locations.

I looked on the few channels I have seen it on and realized there is a race today. Idk if it's a road race I'm going to check it out either way.
