Most handlebar mounted start buttons ground right to the handlebar through the switch frame. If you are using "some other" momentary contact switch yes wire one of the two contacts to a frame ground.

Thanks for the posting the last image sealed the deal for my CDI unit , bk wire is ground 100% known, Bk/W has same continuity to capacitor as bk , seems like ground cut wire out to side stand and drawing confirmed that
It is a TCI unit, not a CDI............another thing. I notice you refer to the bike as 79SF. whatever your paperwork says the bike is an 80SG. Different carbs, (BS34's), Has an Factory electronic Ignition, (TCI), clip on seat and different taillight/number-plate light and speedometer
