gloves .... I need some suggestions

The pics with your hand and glove, lying on the gridboard, is very helpful.
Looks like your suede gloves are 10" long, 5" wide at the cuff, a bit less in the middle. The longest finger is a bit under 3.5".

...The carhartt gloves are certainly wide enough but the finger length looks a little short to me ...maybe 3.5 " ?

They're just a bit over 3.5", maybe 3.7".

I like the deerskin gloves although they may be a little inflexible for motorcycle use ?

Actually, deerskin and goatskin is more supple and stretchable than cowhide, deerskin being one of the more preferred for motorcycling. However, cowhides can be stretched/shrunk to fit better. Some info and videos on "fitting leather gloves". There's other hides out there, like sheepskin, kangaroo, ...etc, but I have no experience with those.

The schmit heavy duty look very interesting as they are the only work glove I've seen in black , I like the palm reinforcement too. presumably they are suede ? its difficult to make out .

Yeah, those look nice, black suede with tanned leather reinforcements, but that's the largest size, and much too small.

I also like the suede gloves a lot they are probably the most flexible I would image.

No, rather stiff compared to the better skins. They're the budget $10 gloves.

I do have some suede gloves which are really difficult to get on and off but are nice and supple and warm.
the problem as always is that even though they are the largest size they produce the fingers are only 3.5" long . Consequently the gloves always feel like they are cramping my finger tips just like wearing a pair of tight shoes cramp you toes.

The West Chester deerskins, above, $20, in XXL, have 4" finger length.

I think the answer is going to be with a pair of suede gloves preferably dark in colour and an xxl size if such a beast exists...

Found another outfit that has numerous offerings in XXL, XXXL, and XXXXL. AND, they're having a big discount going on...

These caught my attention. Side zippers!

One more thing. I'm not ever going to be using these goatskin gloves, in XXL. They're just too big for me. About 9.5" total length. The finger length is about 3.7".

You can have them...

wow thats an amazing range of gloves.
A quick look through and I really like these Sherpa gloves. They are soft supple black and have a short gauntlett piece for the wrist which driver gloves do not.
yep that sherpa glove would be the absolute perfect glove for me .Now all I have to do is find a UK seller

The side zip glove is a good idea but the glove has no wrist which would be really useful for riding. Its surprising how even a small bit of exposed skin can feel like its in a fridge when at speed even on a warm day.

As for your offer of the goatskin gloves ....I don't know what to say. its very generous and kind of you to offer and I'm very grateful but I dread to think what the shipping might cost. Perhaps we could keep that option open in case I cannot find a pair of the Sherpa gloves to fit .

Those Sherpa lined gloves *do* look good. The finger lengths look generous. Found the maker's website.

https://www.prattandhart.com/mens_winter.html

They also have a Thinsulate version, plus many more XXL-XXXXL sizes.

I guess that shipping things to GB is a concern. I can see where that would raise anxiety levels when ordering unknowns and questionables. Pratt and Hart gloves are available thru Amazon. Don't know how that works to GB.

Your call on the goatskin gloves.

I would've thought that other members would be chiming in here. We can't be the only ones with XL+ hands?

It'll be interesting to see how your current order works out. Curious about the critical measurements and fit...

I have found a source of Pratt and hart gloves in the UK on Amazon .They don't unfortunately stock the Sherpa in my size but they have some other similar gloves. The good thing about Amazon is you can return stuff if it doesn't fit or suit within 28 days for full credit so that is a big plus.
The gloves I ordered turned out to be vinyl faux Nappa leather rubbish from the Far East.Thin as fag paper literally ! Another wasted purchase on ebay . I don't know why Chinese sellers are allowed to get away with this . They circumnavigate the UK only item location listing rules somehow , they all claim to be based in the UK and ship from the UK , The item descriptions are for the most part misleading or downright dishonest and ebay do nothing about it.

Some of these sellers have over 10% negative feedback on their monthly sales !

I got some gloves that cost me about $50 about ten years ago and they finally wore out, which by my standards means there was nothing left that resembled a glove...

I looked around ebay and found gloves that looked very comparable for a lot less. Main requirement was main knuckle hard protection and as much small knuckle protection as possible. I have a phobia about giving pavement a hard backhanded slap. The thought kind of makes me cringe...

I ordered these two, and they're both pretty good.

I'd guess they offer about the same protection. The lower link includes rubber protection on the side meat of the palm for padding and ablation. They both include inner wrist protection against sanding down to arteries, another requirement. I ordered size M, and the upper fits kind of loose and the lower kind of snug, but with good flexibility. Top link, made in Pakistan, bottom, undisclosed so I assume China. Pakistan hates us worse, but China is the threat...

Hi 2Many,
those gloves ain't for bike riding, they are for sportscar driving.
Bike riders gloves should be sturdy enough to protect one's hands in a fall-off
I'd advise against open-back summer riding gloves. You can get a nasty back-of-the-hand sunburn when wearing them.
And gloves is like shoes, they gotta fit properly. Try them on before you buy them.

I like the thinner gloves as well. There is a risk in the lack of finger armour but most of my recent tragedies have occurred in carparks while standing still. These offer Kevlar protection. They are light, well made, unobtrusive and relatively cheap. Fit is OK to 2XL and, whilst you can't darn a sock with them on, you can buckle your helmet and turn the key. What else do you need?

This is a bit of an aside but there is an effort by some congressmen in the states to ban kangaroo products, roo leather is used in a lot of high end motorcycle suits etc, as mentioned in some earlier threads it is very abrasion resistant but supple and light weight, most race leathers seem to be made of roo, be interesting to see if the move to ban it goes anywhere,,,

When you get off a plane at Melbourne airport and start down the freeway of a morning, there is normally a mob of about 100 sunning themselves in a field to the left, I’ve always wondered how many tourists notice them, there is a 3 metre high fence to keep them off the freeway, this is like 20km from the city centre, would be a pretty cool sight as a tourist just arriving, but yeh a large portion of the country is over run with them, especially eastern greys, better to use them than let them rot, a ban won’t stop them being shot, it’ll just mean more that do get wasted.

That's what happens when bleeding heart minorities drive our environmental policies. The idea of "stewardship" is based on management not unbridled and ill-informed sympathy. The "how could you shoot that cute little roo" set have never seen them starving in their thousands in drought stricken western Queensland.

yep, when I was in the states people kept telling me not to ride at dawn, dusk or at night cause of the deer risk, a friend of a friend was killed here about a year ago, hit a roo on the freeway on his bike, was in the middle of the day though, so pretty unexpected.
