Are the 34 and 38 carb rubbers the same? Are the 34 smaller. I order a couple from eBay and am having a hard time getting the carbs in. I even used the heat gun and a little oil. I almost pulled the bike over.

No, the 38 are bigger. Exact dimensions are mentioned in that "Intake tube" thread.
The clamps I bought for the 34s do not fit with the steel guard installed.

Had the same issue, even with a 34 carb, it took me some time to plug it in, with some grease it went through
Try to avoid using petroleum lubes on rubber. Use silicone-based products instead...
BS38 is 46 mm
BS34 is 42 mm
VM34 is 40 mm
TM34 is 40 mm
RS34 is 40 mm
(TM is separate flatslides, RS is linked flatslides)
