What have you done to your XS today?

You know what it's like to be at a light behind an old 350ci, chevy pickup! Choke city!
Yeah! He's emissions exempt. I always drove back and forth to work in Atlanta in a car old enough to be exempt. Just be a good citizen and keep your vehicles running properly.

I know the feeling. That's why I put new seat foam in my seat. Also been trying out different seat helpers. I need to get up to the 100 smile range to keep up with old IBG.

Only stopping every couple of hours just makes the seat problem worse to the point of unbearable. I have found that stopping and walking around for 5 minuets every hour or so makes a huge difference. Don't wait till you have tears in your eyes to stop the first time. A small thing to do when traveling on 2 lanes is when you go through towns and are stopped at red lights or stop signs is to stand up. It makes a difference.
If you keep butt breaks to 5 minuets and gas stops to 10 or so you can still put a lot of smiles on in a day.
Or as your coming into a town just stand up on the pegs and bounce around a bit
Yes everyone will know your ass is sore but hey it's your ass (go for it)

Yes that helps also, I do that also on occasion. When I rode off road spent a lot of time "up on the pegs". The handle bar/foot peg placement was a lot more conducive for it than my XS2 is or it may have been my body was 40 some years younger. I find now towards the end of the day my balance isn't what it was at the beginning of the day and I don't feel as stable as I like when I stand on the pegs.

Ya I have a Honda Sabre and with the front pegs more foreword there's no standing up on that bike
What the hell I wanted to stop and get off any way

Foot clutch, 2-1 intake. Really hope the new intake works........

I’m curious about the never again part. Too slow? Too far? Didn’t enjoy the backroads?
wELL, AFTER RESTING FOR , (DAMN capslock), almost 2 days, looking back, I will say that the back roads were OK. Unfortunately, I didn't stop to take pictures. If I did it would have taken 12 hours instead of 9.
I did see an F16 in front of a park or business, on a pedestal, like a Revell Model. That was cool! I figured I'd stop on the way back and snap a few, but after waiting for a train in Columbia, SC, that seemingly extended ,"TO INFINITY AND BEYOND," then it stopped. :wtf: Then wormed thru town in an attempt to get around it. When I did finally get on a 55mph road with lights, I hit construction that stopped me for 15 minutes or so. :banghead: But that was kind of OK, because I was next to a local on a bike, wearing a GT and no helmet. There I am, in my early morning sweat shirt, riding jacket, gloves and full helmet. It's weird seeing riders with no helmets. Those guys have got to be deaf from the wind noise!

Concentrating on making up time and not speeding and watching for people that might pull out in front of me, I missed the F16. Oh well. I'm still alive!

GA was never shut down like NJ was.
Marlin, you need to ride to the VYR in September.
I road there once and it was ok. The problem was that I had all my camping gear and had no room for a cooler and adult refreshments. Yes, I got the award for trucking my bike the shortest distance.
But, I will be there, probably on Thursday so I can ride the rest of thursday and all of Friday and drink Labatts beer all day saturday!

Hey, Gary, I purchased a big blowup mattress for the occassion.

was this meant for my post? lol
Yes, it was! First and foremost hope the project is going well. Having a hard time finding a 2 into 1 right now that is equal length to each cylinder, so also somewhat serious ;) I would buy it from you if you were selling it, lol

LOL I know what you mean man, i spend 4 days or so surfing everywhere on the web and forums and couldn't' find one so I made one lol. I tell you what, I could see if the machine shop here can make at least the billet for it with the holes properly aligned lol. I just had some extra exhaust piping that happened to be the right diameter, so I got lucky.

If this setup doesn't work ill sell it to you lol.

Going to Ace hardware to try and match up some new silver cad. bolts from my original motor/ frame mount bolts that now prone to rust from cleaning. I have not been able to find correct new (exact) replacement bolts through the vendor(s).

And then I saw how nice the spray painted bolt heads and nuts looked...So, I stopped at Harbor Freight, picked up a $39 balance /truing stand and some 1/4 oz flat stick on weights. Nice sturdy. Easy to level..my double bubble combo level fit right into the base. My vice was in a bad position so I ruled out sticking a rod off of that. Trued the Ft. original steel/chrome wheel w/the new tire on the insides pretty well. Then the outsides and ironed out a spot. It too 49 oz's of those flat weights to move the heavy spot 45 degrees....Then I notices some wobble/ hop. Lol. Messed with that and it's as good as this one gets. Worse if I mess with it more. so, that was a 1st. Do the aluminum rear tomorrow. Cleaning up the Ft. stick on the weights and reapply some sealant on the chrome. Checked into some Walmart Shell T4 Rotella @ $12 n change for a gallon.
Thing I'll put on the ft. disc and holder before putting on those dam stick ons and spin it. Can't remember seeing anything odd way back spinning that wheel before it all came off the bike.

Sun is Shining! Yup, I fully intended to safety check and ride today but... cleaning the deck and BBQ for Steak happened, then Steak and Beer and Beer.
XS650 is fully prepped for a Sunday ride now

Sold my project bike the other day. I wasn’t actively advertising it but had a conversation with my barber a few months back about it. Thursday I went in for a cut and he brought it up again. I got a fair price and it found a good home. I am confident he will give it the attention it needs to finish it. I’ll just focus my attention on my ‘75 going forward.

Then I had to go and do this tonight.

I was putting together my new lawn aerator when my wrench slipped off the wheel and gouged one of the spikes. It’s not terrible but was deep and wide enough that Mrs Willis (a certified nurse) declared stitches were needed. Fortunately we have a friend who works in the ER and we caught him before tonight’s shift started. He stitched me up at his kitchen table before he went in to work. It’s a tricky area right at the base fold of my pinky finger. Four stitches got me patched up. It’s a little sore now but I loaded up on OTC meds to dull the pain. I took him a cold beer and a $50 bill to buy him a nice dinner. Cheaper than an ER copay!!!

Oh owww! That looks pretty harsh. When I had stitches in my index finger, using my hand was really painful. I bought one of those aluminum finger splints at the pharmacy and immobilized my finger, it really helped.

Oi! Who was in this headlight bucket last? Yours truly.........
Swapping the bucket out for an xj bucket, a little more deep bodied for packing all that wiring into and no need for the rubber bushings to protect the wires as this bucket has a smooth, curled edge from the factory - but the adjuster mount is port of center instead of starboard. I'll fab a mount to fit.

The wiring.
Hurry Harry March on a shoestring budget bodged it together for expedients sake......wasn't pretty but it worked. Since the last time I was in it I've acquired a soldering iron with all the accessories so attack mode has been initiated. Still working on the shoestring budget for simplicities sake, I'm redoing using salvaged wiring that matches (Yow!) and repurposed factory connectors. Cut, strip, solder, heat shrink, ohm, voltage test and connect.
Funny how the schematic starts to imprint in yer head after a while.

P1010170.JPG Really didn't get much going on rear wheel except driving big bearing in to the ledge placing the seal on it, fitting #20/21 dust cap to check fit. Ran the axle through the swing are and brake hub to see if the spacers, etc looked correct (swing arm upside down in pic). Otherwise, lol, stared at the hub perplexed as to why the long spacer #7 and P1010169.JPG P1010169.JPG together were too long to fit the small brake side bearing in. Just pulled a pic of the old bearing/ brake side close up and can not see #17 in there. The big bearing looks like it's not seated but it sits on a beveled ledge. The front hub has a collar and spacer. Can remember that I did bang one collar off with a bearing. Can't recall if it was front or rear. Rear has a good mark where I used the spacer hole to bang on...Tossed the little bearing back in the freezer for a nap...me tired too.

>> added 2 photos (in case I loose my camera again) put the thick side of axle adj.'ers on outside. The dust cover on sprocket side seems to stick out properly.

new lawn aerator when my wrench slipped
Lawn aerator ? This is motorcycles, not landscaping. Right idea, wrong forum. Laff.
Hey, but I've done it. Sliced the livin' daylights out of that chunk of meat between my thumb and forefinger. Stiches later, opposable thumbs is a joke.
