Looking for Shop/Garage storage ideas (and pix, of course)

Second realtor just left. She'll get back to me with a suggested price tomorrow or Saturday AM. She seemed favorably impressed, so I guess we shall see.

A bit of explanation. The "town" of Gouldsboro consists of seven villages, of which Prospect Harbor (my home) is one. The next one up the road, about 3 miles away, is Birch Harbor. She just sold a small house - 1000ish sq. ft. - on two acres, no water frontage or view, in 12 hours. Asking was $310K, sold for $350K after a bidding war. That gives me hope we may be able to get enough equity out of this place to build our dream.

If the numbers work, I'll talk Maw into going for it. If not, we'll dig up a couple of those coffee cans full of cash in the back yard and spruce this place up a little and call it good.

Nice! I keep reading that there is a housing shortage, we just recently sold my mother in laws house, she went into assisted living, the house sold the first day it was on the market, in fact there was a bidding war and it sold for more than we were asking. I’ve seen some of your photos showing your coastline and it looks pretty as a postcard! Good luck with your listing!

@Downeaster I didn't realize you were so far up there. I go to Maine several times a year but mostly stick to Portland/Boothbay/lakes region. Only been up to Acadia a couple of times but it's beautiful up there. With the number of folks who are working remotely for the indefinite future/forever places like Bar Harbor/Acadia are hot as ever. Fingers crossed for you, but I'm sure you'll do well with the sale. Good luck!

Yup, tele-commuting is the only thing that gives me hope. I can get high speed cable from right in front of the house so that's a plus. I run on DSL now which is good enough for me.

The best audience for this place is a young family that wants to garden and maybe keep a few critters. 3+ acres fenced and a barn with a hayloft are plusses for that crowd. I suspect one reason it didn't move last time is that a young family needs a job and there just aren't any that pay worth a damn around here. Tele-commuting fixes that.

House has been on the market just short of two weeks.

We have a showing tomorrow evening. More action in two weeks than we had in an entire year last time. Of course a showing doesn't necessarily mean a sale, but at least it's something.

Still torn between the benefits of selling and the hassle of moving. We've lived here full time since 1988. You collect a LOT of crap in 32 years...

Moving is a great opportunity to get rid of crap!

Ive never been much of a pack rat, but the last house we lived in for 30 years, and we unloaded a TON of stuff before we moved! It was a little sickening selling off stuff at prices just above giving it away but if you want to get rid of stuff fast, that’s what you gotta do. My wife didn’t know what to do with everything, we had a short time to vacate and move, she was willing to just haul everything to Goodwill, but I talked her into giving me a try to sell it.
I immediately set up simultaneous ads on Craigslist and Offer Up, and by far the best results came from Offer Up.
If you post fire sale prices on things, you will get immediate responses from people who make a business of buying and reselling on Offer Up. They have the time, space and willingness to hold onto lots of stuff to re sell.
And if you’ve got stuff you were just gonna throw away, offer it up for free. We were amazed by the stuff people would come and haul away.
At least that was my experience living in a big city. In a rural environment, that technique might not work as well.
And oh yeah, we did very well with two garage sales we had in addition to the ads.

I've already started thinning the herd via Craigslist and Uncle Henry's.

I'll be able to fill a dumpster with scrap lumber and old furniture and general crap that would be impossible to give away.

I also plan to have a "running yard sale". As I come across stuff that I don't want to keep but is too good to throw away, I'll set it out by the road with a price on it.

I'll also park my mid-sized trailer (8x12 with 4 foot sides on it) and throw all the scrap metal into it. I expect that'll be pretty nearly full too. I've been hoarding steel for 30 years. In addition, there'll likely be a decent sized pickup load of it that will go with me.
