XS Performance Headers

I've got a set of Tranzac two into one performance pipes made here in aus. Crisp power and nice note, bit rusty and slightly dented, 30 yrs old but free to anyone to pick up or pay post.

I have those on my 80 XS650G, no complaints.

Just a couple hundred miles. I haven't ridden at all this year due to some circumstances at home. I'm getting a little gold coloration on the left and the right still has a mis-fire at Idle that I haven't fixed since last year.

Here’s the color my headers have turned. The shiny spot is a test patch where I used some Blue Job chrome polish. Worked ok but after a couple of hundred KM it started to turn a gold color. Not running lean to the best of my knowledge do I think it must be the quality of the chrome. Pretty sure these pipes are the same as the ones that Mikes sells.

I have them on my '77...note the bluing. They were on an '80 that I bought with 14k miles, but don't know when the po put them on.

I have the MikesXS ones on my '83 but I'm pretty sure they're the exact same part. They haven't turned any color really so far, maybe a very slight gold. This surprised me because single wall pipes usually do turn colors. The MAC set I put on my '78 turned blue almost immediately, lol. They are noticeably thinner pipes though. These XS Performance ones are quite a bit thicker by comparison, and that probably explains why they don't discolor as easily or as much. YamahaXS650.com is having a heck of a sale on them at the moment, nearly $40 off. I bought another set for spares.

When the pipes turn color you can just polish it away when you clean the bike. Products like Blue-Away (been around forever) abound. Mike's XS (shudder) sells a polish that is a powder applied with a wet rag. Excellent product !

I bought some of this “magic” chrome cleaning powder. I read that “Blue Job” was one of the better products available. I did a test spot and with a lot of elbow grease, removed some of the colour. Thought it may be a good winter project. Then I took the bike out for a short ride. Colour started to come back. It was then that I decided I liked the colour. Lol.
