What have you done to your XS today?

Today I mounted a headlight and "bobbed" a front fender.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown: Now I might have to center mount a spedo just to fill the gap between the headlight and the upper tree. :banghead: Since all this is for resale the new owner will probably change it anyway. Oh Well.

Noticed new rear brake disc wearing unevenly and removed the calliper to find the pads are worn only on the top 20mm of the pads and the piston retracts when the brake pedal is released.? I managed to grab hold of the piston and boot and pumped the pedal to get the piston and boot to expand out 30mm or so and then pushed it back in and reassembled the calliper on the bike. Seemed to work OK this morning on the ride to work but it needs adjusting, may need rebuild kit.

Hey with the rear wheel in the air is there any side to side play if you grab it and rock back n forth??

Oldfart it looks as though your disc is cupped. To test put a straight edge across the disc, you will probably need to take the wheel out. If it is distorted it may be saved by precision grinding but it may be cost effective to get a used true disc. Never seen an XS disc that has distorted before but other discs do on racing outfits.

Since I'm rebuilding my motor I decided to take my carbs apart to give them a good cleaning. They felt a bit gunked up and I wanted to write down the jetting. Took them apart and holy crap! Left carb gunked up like I've never seen, right carb clean as a whistle.

I checked the disc before fitting with a steel ruler across the face and it looked OK and so did the old disc I took off the bike. Definately put the top hat spacer in when replacing the wheel bearings as i was aware of it being a problem with other's leaving it out. Maybe I need a new axle? Or swingarm bolt?.

Just finished cleaning the inside of my 73's tank with rust restore
It actually cleaned pretty good
I had a little time so I thought lets do a little polishing I take it I am putting to much compound on the part and not enough pressure on it
A 1/2 HP bench grinder just don't cut it (should have gone bigger

@Mikey I keep a small bag of flour near my polishing wheel to help take off the black residue.
Who knew
I'll have to try that Thanks !
Edit: I know dumb question but you don't put flour on the part and then use the wheel to get the black marks off?

Guys that buff boat gelcoat use a screwdriver tip or needle nose pliers to dress the pad now and again. You need revs more than power. My bench grinder/buffer is 3450 ram and worked great polishing Mustang stainless trim.
I have to look at what mine is rated at
If I l don't put a lot of force on the part seems to spin fine but It's got no guts to keep it spinning fast
Ya get what you pay for

I just checked my grinder says 3450 RPM too
I must just have a bad technique ?
I also dress the wheel once a a while

No, just put a little on the piece and clean it off with a cloth. It comes right off with the flour.
