What have you done to your XS today?

I have found my self up against the tank while riding..Jacket or fly zip will add scratches.

I found some rubbery drawer liner at my local TRU VALUE hardware. I cut a piece and several double sided tape strips later, the beta version.

Hopped on the 650 to do my civic duty (vote) and found the clutch no longer functional and an oil leak that can no longer be ignored. Looks like it is coming from the clutch shaft seal. Not terribly surprised given it's probably the stock clutch with about 15K on it.
Sigh... I guess it's going on the MC table for the time being.

The shop never gets cleaned up so quickly as when you have misplaced something small.
That is true! And one never ceases to be amazed at how far small springs and clips or even nuts and washers will fly. And how good they are at rolling into unlikely or inaccessible places. Eh, we 'ad such fun playing hide'n'seek on our own in't garage.

Changed the cardboard underneath. This is after about three hours :thumbsdown:View attachment 201055
Sorry to hear/see. I save foil pie plates, frozen dinner, bakery pie plate, etc. Any "throw it away" foil, I have a stack in my garage cabinet. That is not to say we have a lot of prepared foods, only that I do save those foul trays. Good for sautéing oinions and mushrooms on the grill next to steaks.. As an aside, to prevent staining your concrete, lay the cardboard in an overturned plastic garbage can lid. Good luck with the leak.

Yes, that is a pretty bad leak, lol. But, being so big, it should be easy to find. After a couple seasons, I've managed to get the bottom side of the '83 to stay reasonably clean and dry .....

I don't expect these old motors to be 100% leak free but as long as it isn't dripping, I'm happy. I consider oil "sweat" in some spots normal and don't mind having to wipe it down occasionally.
