I cant seem to get my carbs dialed in this year after the top end rebuild. I can get it to idle starts first kick pretty much every time, but cant seem to get the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle to pull without sputtering/chugging.

stock bore top-end
pamco ignition,
bs 34 xsjohn needles now at 137.5 mains, 47.5 pilots, 2 clip from top on the needles...but been all over the place with mains and needle clips, 3 1/4 out on the mixture screw
check the diaphragms
timing set and checked again,
carbs clean
ditched iridium plugs back to bp7es

Just trying to get some other opinion, ideas....been alot of nice weather Ive missed.

g.scott drags, xs pods, last year same set up was running 47.5 p, 135 main and was good, went to 145main and work down 1 size at a time trying to get it right.

What do your plugs look like?

And i would go back to stock (with the exception of the XSJohn needles in the middle) when frustrated. the bike will *always* run with stock settings. Your jets seem to be a bit all over the place.

And 3.25 out on the mixture screw is way high, in my experience. 1.5 to 2.5, depending on altitude.

I live in Delaware, so I'm kinda close. I run 3 turns out, 145 mains, 45 pilots and it's right on. Pods, cut exhaust. Now, every bike is different.

thanks for the hep guys, i moved the pilot a 1/4 turn up and oiled my pods and it pulled clean after letting it warm up around the block. Maybe a temp fix but im there for now have to take it out longer and check the plugs.

Littlebill you going to the ride to skate in may always need a few more xs at these events.

Ride to Skate?
You going to the "Bikes to the Beach" this weekend? I've seen so many bikes already just today and it hasn't even started yet.

When you do what you guys do to these bikes, you just have to expect tuning problems. Straight pipes are very hard to jet for. They're about the worst choice as far as a performance exhaust goes. If you want that "look", you're going to have to live with the short comings.

BMW got into production road racing in the mid '70s. They found the best exhaust for their twin (and probably any twin) was a long tapered 2 into 2 megaphone. About the best (looking, sounding, and performing) "stock" twin exhaust I've used is the Italian Conti muffler. Bub used to make a replica but, sadly, no more. I really wish the Chinese would do one, lol.
