I have an 80 xs650, and I was reading a thread about a guys points that were "rusty" looking. So I decided to check and see if mine were rusty or bad looking, or if they would move like in the video a guy posted. Well I take off the cover and there is nothing there. This is my first bike, and I'm building a bobber with my brother who has good bit of know how, how hard is it to replace/install new points or the "auto advance system" (what I'm guessing I need)?

Always search the hell out of this site when you are new.... Read a thread that said you dont need the advance system to run.

80s had an electronic ignition - which means no points. So under your cover it should be empty. And I believe ( but not 100%) that you don't have anything under the right side either.

You are correct.
Yeah I feel like an idiot now. Learn as you go I suppose.

We all go through a learning curve with new things...

Just keep your muffler bearings greased and your blinker fluid topped off and you won't have any problems.
