So a guy contacted me about adjusting his BS34's. (No one on here) He dropped them off and said the bike was running really bad. Popping, backfiring, not idling correctly, stalling, and the list went on.
He said he had cleaned them 2 weeks ago, but thinks he did something wrong.
Well I'll tell ya what he did wrong...he didn't freaking clean them. 5twins remenised about this type of incident in another thread.
The outsides were really good looking, but the insides........

I love finding bikes w/carbs like that. Good way to pick up a bike cheap and flip it.

Gotta wonder what kind of cleaning he actually did!

sure he cleaned them. He scraped off the part of the slide he could see through the throat, looks like he used a screwdriver to do it. What else did you want him to do??? You know we should start a "hall of shame thread" These could be the first pics..........

woooooooooooooooooooow! Looks almost as bad as a set of "good working" carbs I got off of ebay a while back.

LOL. The outsides were really good looking. Nice and shiny black. The mix screw plug is the best though. He said he adjusted them and it still ran bad. First, the one plug was still factory installed and the other...well, you can see it. The main jet...ugh!!
The funny thingis, is that not one screw or bolt was too tight. Even the angle bracket screws came right off with a quick snap-turn.

Oh, lol, this was in "Bonez" carbs I just got done. The float pin was a finishing nail. It was bent up on one end (had to snip it off). The float valve was stuck solid also.

...... or do brain surgery, lol. I'd charge him extra for lying. I've cleaned sets like that. Many times the brass stuff is shot. That much gas residue can eat away at the jets internally, making the metering orifices bigger. Then the jets flow more than their marked size and the carbs run rich.

I think I'm gonna confiscate them for their own safety. It's 7:30am and he called me 15 minutes ago to ask how they were going. "Not very well. Not well at all", I said. And considering he has not provided any form of new parts, such as gaskets, jets, ect, it's gonna be a while.
I still can't believe the diaphragms are still good and, all in all, the bodies seem to be fine.

The only thing really bad was the choke rod and assembly. They are from an '83 and, as you can see, the choke assembly was rusted pretty bad. The spot in this picture is where the piece that "pulls" the choke out screws to. That was my first indication that they were not cleaned to begin with.

I'm surprised the bike even ran in the first place..... I love it when people pull this shit. Then when you tell them it's foxing to cost more, they throw a fit, of course. Then he is going to expect it to run like a banshee once he slaps them on, and lord knows what else is wrong with this bike after looking at those carbs......

I feel for you bro.
