Starting to get the '80 Special back together and I'm short a choke knob, not that it had one when I got the bluddy thing...
Anyone know where one can be had (none on eBay at this time) or know of any workable substitutes?

Thanks!
E

just the knob or the whole knob and rod?

Thought the rod may have been tweek'd, but it works fine. So, just the knob. Might have to cruise the lawn-n-garden department and see if there's anything in there.

Thank, Joel!!! Sometimes knowing what DOESN'T work is just as important. :p

Well I said that because I swear I saw the whole rod assembly on Mikes before, but checked and no such luck. Then out of curiosity went to eBay and 650 Central. Save you the foot work so you could look other places.

I don't know what the end of the rod looks like, but I bet this would be a cool opportunity to add a custom touch.

there's just a groove machined into it about 1/8" in.
I put up a post in the classifieds about this, as well.
Thanks!

Not sure but I think the knob was molded on the rod. Go for something custom, thread the rod and locktite a nice knurled aluminum knob on it?
A pair of vice grips would fit the "there I fixed it" :wink2:

I seen a guy use vice grips in place of a steering wheel in an old car.

I think an old cool coin would be a cool piece.

I am in the same situation and was thinking about trying to use a tap and die method on some "chunk" of steel or aluminum (anything that can be tapped).

sorry not a real answer to your questoin, but some direction.

Most hardware stores have an assortment of knobs. Some screw on, some slip on and have a set screw to hold it on. Find one you like.
If to hole is just a bit big, then just fill the hole with JB Weld. AS you push it on the JB Weld will push into the groove on the shaft. When It cures It wont come off.

You could buy a set of dice, (or steal em from other people's board games) and drill one out to fit the end of the rod, that might look slick..
