The 70 cylinder head had noise suppressors between the fins. That's a dead giveaway for a correct 70 engine. The needle bearing top end was changed mid production in 1970. When that bearing failed it could destroy the engine, even putting the rod through the case, so if you have needle bearings...
I just finished the restoration of a 900 Kaw and was amazed with the availability of parts. Kawasaki themselves have very little for the bike but the aftermarket with reproduction parts is amazing. You can literally buy any part you need. From painted body sets with new tank and covers to a...
After reading about the process, it sounds like the water and soap are degreasing while the glass beads are cleaning the surface. I do believe you can accomplish the same by using usual degreasing procedures and then soda blasting. And soda blasting is not nearly as abrasive as a glass bead. And...

A few years ago Yamaha displayed a bike at the Tokyo show that payed homage to the XS650. They called it "Sakura". It was really an exciting design, but it was a V-twin. Even so I would probably have bought on. It was voted best bike in their display, but nothing else was ever heard. Here's a link.
And the new Bonneville is better than the old in every respect, brakes, power, handling, comfort, vibration and quality. And it will get you home, even in the dark. And it won't stain your garage floor. And no, I don't have one.
Reproduction Decals is one of the best on line companies I have ever dealt with. Great products and the decals are as they say. I have never had a communication problem and my last order was two weeks ago. All good.
