    PMA Pamco= Battery or Capasitor??

Most run the Sparx cap from Low Brow Customs. If you place 'PMA' and 'Capacitor' in the search, you'll have a full night of reading material.

    Rephase

Shipping to Hugh is a really straight forward process. If you use USPS, the crank and cam will all fit into a large flat rate box, under $20 if I remember correctly. Reinforce with cardboard so nothing gets damaged. I've recently just reassembled my motor with the rephased crank/cam, although...

    Rephased Cam/Advance Side Cam Hole

Thanks fellas, just making sure. It was rephased by Hugh so all should be well. My issues must be somewhere else.

    Rephased Cam/Advance Side Cam Hole

Trying to nail down a timing issue and just want to make sure I installed the cam correctly. As I understand it, on a stock cam, with the left piston at TDC, the pin on the advance side of the camshaft should be pointing up. It's not the same way for a rephased cam, is it? I feel dumb for...

New XS Brat Build -- Counterbalance Motorcycles

Damn man, that thing is sick. I check out your blog on a pretty regular basis...still holding out for the burnt orange scoot to make more appearances. One of my favorite XS builds so far.

Testing engine outside of frame (Wiring, fuel source)

Well, the good news is I think I got a makeshift setup put together. It's not very elegant, but every thing seems to be connected the way it should. Will continue to work on it and will post a pic of it in the near future. The bad news is that after an initial puff of smoke on the first two...

Testing engine outside of frame (Wiring, fuel source)

That's a great idea. Picked up a small lawnmower tank for 5 bucks at a local small engine shop. Will work on getting the coils mounted somewhere and getting this thing kicked over.

Testing engine outside of frame (Wiring, fuel source)

Hey, thanks for the replies. Yeah, I'd seen that video (member on the forum here, TwoJugs, I think). I'd sent him a PM, but his setup will be a bit different as he's using the starter and I'm kicking. I think I got an answer to one of my questions in regards to testing the Pamco. Looks like...

Testing engine outside of frame (Wiring, fuel source)

It's taken me a few months, but I'm finally ready to test my engine rebuild. However, the frame is still a work in progress and I'd like to get the engine started outside the frame. I've searched for a definitive test stand thread, but haven't found what I'm looking for. So here are a few of...

277 Pamco: Do I have the correct rotor?

Pete, wow that was fast. Was waiting for me when I got home from work. Many thanks!

Is it necessary to clean the internal parts of the engine?

Hugh did my rephased, so cleaned the crank. I left the tranny alone, but used a product called piston kleen for everything else. Good stuff

Is it necessary to clean the internal parts of the engine?

Read it wrong initially. Can't hurt...for me it was peace of mind. I just like the way it looks more than anything.

277 Pamco: Do I have the correct rotor?

Thanks Pete, that's awesome. By sensors I assume you mean two separate circuit boards? Yes, it does.

277 Pamco: Do I have the correct rotor?

Installing my 277 degree Pamco that I purchased from Mikes, but noticed that my rotor has four magnets instead of two like in Hugh's tutorial. Two are grey, two are red, offset maybe 10-15 degrees. Is this correct or was I sent the wrong rotor?

    Advance Locating Pin

MFJustin, it's appreciated, but I already sucked it up and bought three or four of them. I had to after I lost one of the clips that hold the advance springs on to the fifth dimension (sensing a trend...). However, found out the pin that holds oil pump rotor on is a perfect fit. A little...

    Advance Locating Pin

Pete, you're the man. However, I'm just going to take your previous advice and make myself feel better by purchasing something else that I "need". That'll teach me. ;)

    Advance Locating Pin

You're right on the money...but unfortunately I bought the engine in pieces. I had an advance rod with pins installed and an advance unit, but no locator pin. Presumably never had it or lost shortly after I got it. I'm kicking myself for not reading ahead and buying what I needed accordingly. I...

    Advance Locating Pin

Well, I didn't read Hugh's Pamco write up before I bought the parts and naturally left something out. I went back to Mike's to purchase the $1.10 Advance Locating Pin, but can't wrap my head around paying over $12 shipping from a town a few hours away. Are there any other options for the...

    Enfine rebuild (another one)

If you don't mind shipping, Buddy Vitt in Jacksonville, FL is an engine whisperer. His favorite bike is the XS650 and has been working/racing them since the early 70's. He still rides an XS-1 to work everyday. He works out a shop in Jax called Ton Up Jax: http://tonupjax.com. Crazy old...
