    ignition coils

One additional question-does the ohms resistance matter between points and electronic ignitions?

    Great, thanks.

    ignition coils

Sorry for the thread steal, but this is for a TX750 that has a single condenser assembly, but there are two leads that plug into it. Is the assembly in fact two condensers so I would just cut one lead? I like the idea of a single coil vs. two as I initially inquired about, and also higher...

    ignition coils

Dumb question, but could you use two of those coils with points, grounding the unused lead off each coil? That is, use one coil for the left cylinder/ground and the second for the right cylinder/ground.

Oops, disregard post. Answered my question

    BS-38 Carb alternatives?

I had thought about "un-hanging" the EX-500 carb set but they seem to share a common throttle butterfly shaft. I suppose it would be possible to put in a 5mm spacer, but that's beyond my shop abilities. It looks like the VM-34 round slides might work, if I could find a mounting to fit. I...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

MPG has dropped to 32 or so. The best it's been has been around 42. As documented here in other threads I've had the carbs off several times, replaced the butterfly seals, new jets and float needle, adjusted the floats, and tuned using the dead cylinder method. The needle and jets are stock...

    BS-38 Carb alternatives?

I had hoped the EX-500 carb conversion in http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13070 would work on my TX750. Unfortunately the center to center spacing for the carbs is 125mm instead of the 120mm on the 650 and the ganged EX-500 carbs won't fit. Are there any suggestions on a better...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Well rats! It looks like the 750 has 125mm center to center so a ganged EX500 carb set won't work. It's too bad, since there is a lot of good information on jetting and set up for this combination. Rather than hijack this tread, I'll start another to see about alternatives.

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Brian and Leo thanks for the information. The TX750 uses the single enricher on the left with the connecting tube, so the carbs point straight back, but it also uses the straight mounting flange the earlier 650s used. I have the straight JBM 38 mounts on at the moment, but don't see a straight...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

My bad, you're right, the info is there in post #13, 120mm. I'll claim brain fart, as I was looking to confirm the need for new carb holders to fit the 34s vs. the 38s and just dumped it. Any word on the straight 34 carb mounts, or would putting the angled ones available from JBM work? I'm...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

This thread has grabbed my attention, but I have a TX750 vs. the 650 and have a few questions. Has anyone used these carbs with a 650 taken to 750 (sorry, might have missed that reading the thread)? Perhaps more importantly, I know that switching from the BS38 carb holder to the BS34 is...

    BS-38 Carb Issues?

OK, tried the test 6 times on a 6-8% grade. Four times the motor quite, once the rpm dropped a bit, and the other there was no change. I think I was braking harder the 4 times it quit.

    BS-38 Carb Issues?

Ah, thanks for that trouble shooting technique. I'm assuming that you pull the clutch lever to drop the rpm to idle? How steep should the downhill be? That is at the top of tomorrow's list now that I'm back in town, since it doesn't require any disassembly. This seems to be a rather sudden...

    BS-38 Carb Issues?

I understand that as the fuel flow stops from the tank the level in the bowl will drop, resulting in a temporary leaning of the mixture, hence the increased idle. The last time I had the carbs off I checked the float levels. Both were set the same and as I recall I changed them 1mm which...

    BS-38 Carb Issues?

TX750, stock BS-38 carbs and jetting, exhaust, intakes. On the last two tanks of fuel I've noticed the engine wants to idle around 3500 rpm as the tank gets to the reserve change over level. Once it's switched over to reserve the idle returns to normal. The engine starts and runs fine when the...

    Recommend any Motorcycle shipping companies

I've used Uship with so-so results, the price was good but it was a true mom and pop operation. The other I've used is Federal (Allied Van Lines). They were a bit more expensive, but WAY better as far as schedule, reliability and professionalism. One trouble with Uship is it's usually a...

Sudden Poor Running Diagnosis Help Wanted

Pulled the carbs and cleaned the bowl and main body passages. The bowls drain OK, so the fuel in them must have evaporated some from the last ride to working on it in regards to little fuel coming from the drain screw. The inlet to the main jet cavity on both carbs was good. The jets looked...

Sudden Poor Running Diagnosis Help Wanted

Yes, BS-38s. I saw that horizontal drilling on the diagram in the carb guide but haven't specifically looked for it on the bowls. Would that impact the main jet operation at all when in the main jet range of throttle? It seemed to be running well until that switch was thrown. The float...
