    Just rode a Norton

I have owned a 1974 Sportster (yeah, AMF,) and a 1979 Bonneville 750, and have ridden about five Nortons. My XS's were all better. That being said, I just bought a Katana, so all my XS stuff is up for sale. I will shake no more.

HOW MUCH OIL and is 2.5 LITRES TOO MUCH

I learned the hard way after spraying a fine mist of oil out the breathers for about 60 miles. This bike likes to teach me easy lessons the hard way. :wtf:

HOW MUCH OIL and is 2.5 LITRES TOO MUCH

If it is a 1974, it takes less than two, there is a bulletin on that.

    PAMCO Electronic advance

I have a TCI setup from an '83 I am jamming on as soon as my puller arrives. I may get the hot-rod coil after that. I hate points.

front brake hose one piece or two ?

I just put braided stainless lines fore & aft on my '74 TX. The difference in feel from 40 year-old hoses was startling at first. Now, I love it.

    PAMCO Electronic advance

I hope to see this on the Canadian version (XS650direct) soon. I just changed what I hope is my last set of points after a backfire blew the carbs right out of the boots. Now saving sheckels for the winter refit.:banghead:

Review of some parts purchases from MikesXS

All the stuff was OK this year except for the shift lever rubber which split on the first ride. Once I got the leaks stopped, the oil filter/cooler seems OK. Man, oil stays in header wrap for decades.

I just found 10 rock's in my carb. What's the weirdest thing you've found

When I worked for a Ford dealer, a guy with an F150 came in with a noise when he turned corners. After much B.S., I took the door pane off, to find a 3/4" nut on a string, with a note that read: "Ha ha, you found it!"

    Clear window alternator cover?

I do resin casting of jewellery in the summer. I might get some silicone & make a mould. Won't be until mid-May, tho. Sounds like fun!:bike:

    Why?

As to the original point of the thread; I remember reading once that people buy motorcycle magazines to reinforce their choices, not to learn about new models. The topic this developed into is a minefield, with no logical outcomes, but both sides need to remember: Jocks are given WAY too much...

Review of some parts purchases from MikesXS

38mm carb boots: Ok 530 X-ring chain & two sprockets: OK. Throttle sleeve & cables: OK. Stainless & OEM brake hoses, OK so far. All from XS650 Direct (Canada) For some odd reason stuff seems cheaper on the Canadian site. I added an oil cooler - paper filter adapter & sump screen this...

Best Bang For Your Buck- P.M.A./Ignition System

I kept the points, grafted in two 1989 Dodge Ram coils & ballast resistors with 1 Kohm caps & Iridium plugs. She starts with half a kick, every time. Yes, I am cheap.

    Let's See The XS's

Here's my budget rat-tracker. I have ridden it for about five years, and have about $600.00 into it. She's a '74 TX. This winter she got a Mike's oil filter/cooler outfit, new sump filter, 17/32 teeth sprockets, X-ring chain, new throttle sleeve, stainless lines, and a fairing/headlight unit...
