I have owned a 1974 Sportster (yeah, AMF,) and a 1979 Bonneville 750, and have ridden about five Nortons. My XS's were all better. That being said, I just bought a Katana, so all my XS stuff is up for sale. I will shake no more.

I just put braided stainless lines fore & aft on my '74 TX. The difference in feel from 40 year-old hoses was startling at first. Now, I love it.

I hope to see this on the Canadian version (XS650direct) soon. I just changed what I hope is my last set of points after a backfire blew the carbs right out of the boots. Now saving sheckels for the winter refit.:banghead:

All the stuff was OK this year except for the shift lever rubber which split on the first ride. Once I got the leaks stopped, the oil filter/cooler seems OK. Man, oil stays in header wrap for decades.

When I worked for a Ford dealer, a guy with an F150 came in with a noise when he turned corners. After much B.S., I took the door pane off, to find a 3/4" nut on a string, with a note that read: "Ha ha, you found it!"

As to the original point of the thread; I remember reading once that people buy motorcycle magazines to reinforce their choices, not to learn about new models. The topic this developed into is a minefield, with no logical outcomes, but both sides need to remember: Jocks are given WAY too much...

38mm carb boots: Ok 530 X-ring chain & two sprockets: OK. Throttle sleeve & cables: OK. Stainless & OEM brake hoses, OK so far. All from XS650 Direct (Canada) For some odd reason stuff seems cheaper on the Canadian site. I added an oil cooler - paper filter adapter & sump screen this...

I kept the points, grafted in two 1989 Dodge Ram coils & ballast resistors with 1 Kohm caps & Iridium plugs. She starts with half a kick, every time. Yes, I am cheap.
