Changed my stator rotor, now the bike won't start...

On mine - 81 electronic ignition, the rotor was slightly shorter leaving the pickup magnet just that much further away than it would trigger the pickup's. Cool. Srinath.

I see Big Dog custom choppers is closing

He he in the land of the blind the 1 eyed man is king. Well I sold the one that was running a week ago. I've had 3 so far, but this one may be a while before it gets built. I'm likely to finish the gr before I get to this one. Cool. Srinath.

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

Even in the 50's the british and even american bikes had wiring and all the bits and bobs (fuse boxes, and plug in wiring pieces etc) all hidden from view. The japanese took it 1 step further and made the bolts and nuts hidden too. I kinda like that. In a way that makes everything look...

I see Big Dog custom choppers is closing

I think the focus now a days has shifted to making the best use of what you have. Undriveable 150K bikes are not it, 300 buck bikes fixed and driven daily are it. I have an unrelated pet peeve ... There ought to be a law that says they cant term parts as "unavailable" once they have quit...

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

You can acheive a different rake by putting shorter shocks too ... or even longer shocks, cos that de-rakes it ... that makes most sv650's, SV1000's, GS500's, katana's and nearly anything made that people put aftermarket shocks on a chopper. The SV's and GS'es get hand me down from the bigger...

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

No ... hell no, if you remove it what would you use to stretch and chrome. Estended bling arm dude, ask any "biker" ... A shaved and slammed Busa with estended bling arm is where its at. Yea that's where its @, which is why all the retards are riding it. I have a Hayabusa helmet cos its a...

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

The convention is - if you cut it @ the neck its a chopper, cut it anywhere and everywhere else its a bobber. Cutting the neck and rewelding it back together as you can well imagine takes talent and confidence. You have a lot of load goiing through there, alignment and other aspects are...

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

Also I have an odd twist of mind. Small changes like pipe or seat or whatnot, I need everyone to see it. Big changes like a chopped frame, different FE or SA ... you should not even see it. That's just me again. Cool. Srinath.

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

Oddly If gandhi moved to a village near delhi or bombay (where millions of people wanted to see and delegates and politicians wanted to talk to him everyday he'd have lived a few more years ... Instead he gets assasinated by a nutcase with a gun. How stupid do we look, dude, ever hear of...

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

It seems like a lot of trouble for being minimalistic. Like hacking off a frame, removing the shock and SA then paying up 400 for a hard tail, plus more for a minimum wiring and buying lights and seats and everything ... I am not refering to anyone in particular ... After India's...

    Cafe build update

That is cool. I am working on one cafe and one tracker. Will be looking for cafe/tracker ideas from this one. Cool. Srinath.

    Bobbers and choppers everywhere.

I am working on building a cafe xs and a tracker GR, and the problem is, no one has any ideas. There is 10 guys in my hood who want to build choppers and bobbers and a few who already have. They hack 1/2 the bike off and toss the rest. I would rather do minimal work, light shaving of brackets...

How tall is an xs motor.

Guys ... thanks so much xs1961, but the rest of you ... way to complicate a simple question. So with a feeler guage and a can opener I should be able to squeeze it in. Cool. Srinath.

    Painting/powdercoating bars?

I believe the start button presses 2 terminals together. I think the old days of pressing one terminal to ground were widely considered obsolete in the 70's. I know cos I have made and sold powdercoated bars for a 90's bike - a GS500 and never had an issue, so much so I never even thought...

How tall is an xs motor.

Hello, My only xs motor right now is the one lying in 300 pieces on my garage floor. So I am hoping to get myself an answer before getting too far into the project. How tall is the XS motor from the lower engine mount bolt (just behind the side stand) to the top of the motor - not the...

    Rephasing the cam shaft.

I thought we were talking about durability. Not performance. On that front, the 8K the xs can rev to will easily be met by the stock head. Cool. Srinath.

    Rephasing the cam shaft.

The bottom end is built like a tank if you ask me. Top end is not. This bottom end may be the strongest ever I've seen on a bike. The only one I'd even put in the same league is a savage 650, but its top end is even worse than the xs. Cool. Srinath.

    Rephasing the cam shaft.

What crank is that ? lightened xs ? I mean the redline on a gr is 9K, I wont rely on the xs stock parts like the rockers and valves to hold up that high. The GR is shim over bucket, similar to a GS500 which redlines @10.5. There is one guy by my house that built a 851 out of the GR650 and...
