    For Sale - 1979 XS650 Chop

Up for sale is my 79 Yamaha XS 650 chopper, bobber, whatever you may call it. I first built it about three years ago, and its had a few small changes since then. I've replaced old points ignition with the Pamco hall effect sensor setup including the "ultimate" coil that puts out a 75kv spark...

    Hughs PMA Regulator Overheating?

No, they're not meant for this, but they will work. Mine is still running perfect since late March early April.

    What is your XS worth?

The way I see it, they're worth pretty much whatever someone is willing to pay. I have no idea what I could get for mine if I ever decided to sell it, but I doubt I would ask much. That being said, I've had numerous guys come up to me at gas stations or wherever and the first thing out of their...

    Hughs PMA Regulator Overheating?

It was a bad battery for me. Put a new one in and no problems yet five months and a few thousand miles later.

    this is BS!!!!

In that case what it comes down to is your wiring is fucked. If it was me, I would just make another harness from the regulator on. It only takes a few hours at most and wire is cheap. MAKE SURE to use schematics from a good source, like on this board. Unless you have a very good understanding...

    Tiny Master Cylinder?

I did it for my rear brake. Works fine, but I've yet to find tubing that doesn't sweat out the brake fluid. Not a big deal, every month or so I just top it off.

    this is BS!!!!

Did you leave your key on? The Pamco will blow if it has electricity supplied to it when its not running for more than a few minutes.

Question of the day?? Would you pay more for USA Made products???

IMO the deindustrialization of the US is one of the worst things to have happened here. Very few people these days, especially younger ones, know the value of true craftsmanship and don't seem to care about product quality or durability, only price. My fix for this? Raise the import tax to level...

    Pamco blown!!!!!!!

Dude you would be amazed the money that does not have to be spent on these bikes in situations like this. Buy/borrow/use your own multimeter and just do the tests. Blindly throwing money at things like this isn't ignorant, it's just stupid. I'm seriously not trying to be a dick, but if you don't...

I need advice ASAP on a 650xs PURCHASE tonight!!!

Not too bad looking a bike, but I personally wouldn't pay 2200 for it. Especially if the title might not be available.

    Let's see them pipes!

Nice, I still might change mine to exit like that. I ran them out of the head, angled inwards and down, then underneath the bike all the way back to the rear tire then just made turnouts. I could still make something like that to replace the turnouts. I need to take some pics.

How to get throttle sleeve in to the grip?

I usually use a squirt of cheap high strength hair spray then let it dry overnight.

    Let's see them pipes!

I almost made a set like that. How do they sound? Got a clip?

    Custom (fabbed) headlight bucket pics

Keep in mind those little lights give you almost zero night visibility. I had a supermoto with a headlight that used two of those. It might as well have not been there.

    Practical Motorcycles

So true  I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned the Honda VFR 800. Buttery smooth, comfy on trips and good in the twisties. One of these days when I get the cash I'll pick up maybe an '06ish model with some hard bags.

    YEAH!!!!!!! PMA

I ran my stock charging system and points with simplified wiring for a good while. Then it all crapped out and I did the PMA then the Pamco. Probably the best two things I've done to the bike...

    Parkerizing help needed

Well parkerizing and bluing are two different things. The gun blue would look way better imo. There are two types of bluing, hot and cold. What you get from the factory is a hot blue. It penetrates the metal much better and lasts longer while providing better protection. Cold bluing is usually...
