What have you done to your XS today?

Just drained half a gallon of gas out of my crank case because my coworker thought it would be funny to turn off my petcock on a Friday. Instead he set it to prime and there it stayed over the weekend. Really funny joke..... You guys think I should leave it open and air out for a couple days?

    Regulator/Rectifier

Yeah 5twins helped me with the same problem last year. Ended up cooking the rotor. There's a guide on here on how to check it. We (well mostly 5twins) replaced the rotor, did the vr115 regulator and a 5twins special rectifier. Now works great.

    Float taking on gas

My personality and background is make it yourself, don't throw money at it. Proper isn't fun, trying something no ones succeeded at is. To me, perfection is ugly. Hack job that works is sexy. I work on 60+ year old buildings and I can't go to Home Depot for parts. Making something out of...

    Float taking on gas

So in theory, since I have now left the gas filled garage; if the float weights more, one should compensate by lowering the float level so the carb doesn't call for excess gas to meet its need. In theory would that work? What I'll do is take it in to work, drill a small hole to drain it and then...

    Float taking on gas

Buffalo is great. We get all 4 seasons and if you get out and enjoy each one, you'ld love it here. Motorcycles/boats in the summer, skiing, snowmobiles in the winter. Spring and fall depend on if Mother Nature turns the snow machine off. The city is run down a bit but rebuilding from...

    Float taking on gas

I'm thinking of setting it 26-28mm range and giving it a shot tomorrow and see how it goes. Will have to rig up a remote viewing fuel tube. Don't think I'm in the right mind to put it back together tonight. Are you my grandma?

    Float taking on gas

It looks like some brazing has already been done on it from the previous owner. Ask 5twins what he thinks about that guy. He had the wrong regulator on it and I fried my entire charging system. We spent all day Sunday rebuilding it. Did the vr-115 mod and 5twins built up a homemade rectifier...

    Float taking on gas

Have not found a hole in the brass float yet but can hear a tiny rattle of gas stuck inside, 78 special, the gas is just getting good. Might be time to open the door.

    Float taking on gas

Have had a nasty leak out of the left carb last couple days. After pissing 4 gallons of 93 octane I decided maybe I should do something about it. On a side note if you want to get super high, go sit in my garage for an hour with the door closed. Anyways I'm wondering if I should set the float...

Rough Cold Start, High Idle When Warmed Up

The "flute tube" (as I like to call it)? That should just pull out. Only thing holding it in is that oring at the base. Atleast that's on my stock 78 special. Don't know if different carbs have another setup.

Also should be rubber oring on your needle flute thingy, on your mixture screws and one other place I can't remember that you hadn't already listed.

Rough Cold Start, High Idle When Warmed Up

You want to remove the jets and clean/inspect. There are little pin holes that feed the gas so you will want to locate them, spray carb cleaner then blow em clean with a air compressor or as I use air in a can for cleaning electronics. It can be pretty confusing and intimidating for first...

Rough Cold Start, High Idle When Warmed Up

I used to soak mine on my sr but don't bother anymore. Hand cleaning does just as good a job plus you don't have to worry about forgetting to pull a rubber piece. I think it's more work then neccesary to me.

    Electrical nightmare

Sounds like a plan 5twins. Wondering how much of the system I've fried. Time to walk away and do some theraputic wood chopping mixed with a side of beer. Kicking myself in the ass for not replacing it in the first place but can't fight that urge if it runs I want to ride.

    Electrical nightmare

Hmm. So if that PO hack job blew the reg/rec unit. Shouldn't my volts go way up or since its shot, it's telling the alternator not to send juice or the electricity is not making it past the reg/rec unit? Or did I fry my altinator as well?
