    Frontend issues/questions: 1973 tx650

Chizler is that a motorcycle specific tool or could I ask for that at a harbor freight or automotive store? I figured there was a tool designed for that but I have never seen one.

5twins, I have always removed the lowers to replace seals as well. I can't even imagine how much of a pain in the ass it would be to do it while fully assembled! What is that set up in the second picture?

I will install the new seals and see if that works. When I did the last ones I just rubbed a little fork oil on them. Those were from mikes but the new ones are from 650central. Guess I better look into a measuring tool for the fork oil as well.

I don't understand the protecting the seals with packaging? I was gentle with them. I filled the oil with a cup. I was reading that you can measure the levels from the top but did not try that. I did buy what are supposed to be better seals but I haven't installed them yet.

I have a 1973 TX650 that is just about finished. I have been working on this bike for almost two years off and on. it is a complete bike and i have ridden it about 25-40 miles around the neighborhood. I did install brand new fork tubes and seals because it had fork tubes on it that were ten...

    Master Cylinder Rebuilding

I purchased the rebuild parts for my 73 master cylinder from mikes and it was leaking within maybe a week. And that snap ring tool that is longer to down in there did not help me at all. Lol

    Tc bros PMA help needed

yeah its gotta be a tapatalk thing. I have read a lot of threads now, mostly a waste of time for answering this particular question, but I have learned a few things and other things are coming back. lol I see that some say to set the timing before the swap, the swap is already done and I did...

    Tc bros PMA help needed

I know. I sifted through a bunch so far and I knew I was going to get the "lots of threads on that" response. Was hoping someone would post a link to one of those threads that was helpful. Not looking for someone to retype stuff that is already here, just couldn't find one good thread that had...

    Tc bros PMA help needed

I'm helping a buddy that bought an xs650 "project" and I'm stumped. It has points, Tc bros PMA, reg/rec unit and a capacitor. Main concern right now is to make sure the motor runs before a complete tear down. I wired the ignition system, battery, coils, condensers, new points gapped. The PMA is...

Finally hit the pavement and nothing fell off!

Thanks. Yes I need to paint and polish everything. The frame is just primered and the rear fender is raw. Only got five miles in yesterday but it was great. Gotta get the tires balanced too. I have been procrastinating on paint because I have no idea what colors I want yet. Sorry for the...

Finally hit the pavement and nothing fell off!

D fin as Lily got the go and stop nailed down. What a blast to be back in the wind! Lol She runs pretty good but the carbs need some tuning. Isles okay, stumbles right off the throttle like she's starving and then runs like a raped ape. Cruising is fine also. Gotta read thru the carb guide...

    73' brake question

So I've been doing some research and am finding it a little expensive to make sure I can stop. I have a full front brake setup, master cylinder, caliper, old crusty lines. They appear to be in good shape, except for the hoses. It looks like the caliper rebuild kit is $23.50, piston are $22.00...

How to install new butterfly seals?

Just make sure that you don't bend the throttle shaft! I learned that one the hard way! Lol

Feels like i've tried everything....High Idle.....

I just have cheapo filters now but plan to get the uni foam filters as everything I've read says the uni's are the best option. When your bike is running put your hand in front of the carb where a filter would be and you can tell that it needs something there. Don't block it totally but you will...

has anyone used a 1200 sportster tank

Yup sounds like a king sporty tank. To me they are a little too large for the stock frame. It will fit though.
