front brake improvments for a 75

I went with the junction because I already had upper and lower braided lines. Just replaced the lower with a 90 degree banjo at the caliper. It all works.

front brake improvments for a 75

Running the lines to the junction beneath the headlight makes for a tidy installation. One thing for sure, if you use the Bembro caliper, you will need to use a 90 degree banjo as the line exits from the top of the caliper. Bend the stock line support and run the line up the fork for a short...

front brake improvments for a 75

I upgraded the brakes on my tracker with one of the 35mm kits from Pandemonium Choppers. Got a 4 piston, 65mm bolt space, Bembro caliper and MC. Already had stainless braided lines and drilled rotor. This is, IMHO, the best upgrade for an XS. The difference is amazing. I live in the...

    Oil leak at tach drive

Easy to do. Just completed replacing the seal. Good advice earlier. Use a phillips to hold #7 while removing #1. Insure the groove in #1 where the seal fits is free of old seal/debris. Made a tool to R/R #4. On my machine #1 has a hole for the bolt. Take a marker and mark on the top of #4...

    Caliper differences between fork sizes

Brake upgrade done--and what a difference. Best upgrade for the XS, IMHO. The folks at Pandemonium Choppers hooked me up with their kit for 35mm forks, a Bembro 4 piston caliper and MC. You can imagine my surprise when I opened the box and found what appeared to be a beautiful, new Bembro...

Thanks Skunk. My right forefinger and thumb will never be the same after all the filing on the caliper. The guys at pandemonium did me right--looks like a brand new caliper. One of the newer ones with the large letters BREMBO. Will install the new master and bleed the system tomorrow. Will...

    Oil leak at tach drive

Also posted on another thread. My leak is around the cable. Removed the cable and the threaded piece. Seal underneath was shot, ordered a replacement. Question is how to remove the defective seal? Will I have to remove #5, 6 and 1 to tap out the seal from the bottom? Can I keep pressure on...

Oil Leaks - 1978 XS Special

An old thread,, but related to a problem I am having-- an oil leak at the cable. Removed the tach cable and the threaded adapter. The seal under the adapter is shot. Here is the question--what is the best (easiest) way to get the defective seal out. New seal will be here Friday. Don't want...

Thanks Skunk, My brake stuff will arrive on the 7th:) I am repairing a leaking left petcock, draining the tank as we speak. Checked the valves yesterday. Everything is so easy to do on these bikes. Reminds me of the 356 Porsches we raced in the late 60's/early 70's. Bob

Thanks for the tip Skunk. Could you send me a pic of the adapter plate mod. What is your overall opinion of the Pandemonium upgrade? Big difference in braking? With 34mm forks, you did not have to use the rotor spacer? Tomorrow is valves day. After a ride today, I checked the cam chain...

OK, 35's it is. Skunk--No problemo. Just need to replace the 30ml I drained out of each fork:) The Brembo set up from Pandemonium Choppers is on the way along with some new pads and one of their sweet clutch levers. Probably need to add a new clutch cable as well. Thanks to all. Bob

    Caliper differences between fork sizes

Thanks Arctic. I am ordering the MC and caliper from Pandemonium Choppers. Am already running braided steel lines. They have two mounting kits, one for 34s and one for 35s. The latter has a spacer to correct the offset. I spoke with the proprietor yesterday. He told me that the 35s used...

    Caliper differences between fork sizes

Hard to say. Engine is '73, frame is later. Not sure about the forks. They mic at 34.993 and the caliper mounting tabs on the rear of the slider are 4.5in center to center. Ordering a Bembro kit and need to know if forks are 34s or 35s. Thanks, Bob

Early model brake caliper on late model forks?

Along these lines, are the brake tabs on the rear of the slider spaced differently on 34's vs 35's?

    Caliper differences between fork sizes

Do the brake tabs on the rear of the fork sliders have different spacing for the two different forks? My forks mic at 34.993, but I am not sure whether they are 34's or 35's. Thanks, Bob

Thanks Skunk. I guess I have the 34's also as they mic at 34.9
