    Fuel pump reliability

Look at the automotive world. How many vehicles have you ever seen with an electric Solenoid pump? None. Vane flow-through types are a far better design and will last much longer. I second the NAPA guys opinion.. ~Revanoff~

    It's been sitting!

Hi XSLeo, Currently, I don't have my breather system hooked up, as the airboxes I have are not correct for my year. I've been able to confirm that it's burning oil in the combustion chambers, but all the smoke I've been seeing is not necessarily from that. When I first got it started, I was...

    It's been sitting!

I've actually not been experiencing any oil leaks, just plenty of oil burning above 3K RPM, and at idle. I need to check the compression now that it's got some miles on it. I changed the oil yesterday, and cleaned the filter screen. I do need a replacement screen for sure. I put 2.5 quarts in...

    It's been sitting!

Decided to re-torque the head... I'm really sincerely surprised at how loose everything was... holy cow. Just need to find the keys and perhaps that will have sorted out part of my issue! ~Revanoff~

The most awesome deal that could ever be had on an XS650... ever

Never thought about doing that.... I think the insurance portion I would pay would almost be cheaper in the event something happens... hmmm I will take some more photos today. She did clean up pretty well. ~Revanoff~

    It's been sitting!

Now that I think about it, the oil viscosity right now is probably thinner than it should be for normal use. I did that on purpose to try and get whatever goop/rust/blah is on the rings, off the rings. I think an oil change, and re-torque the head (it was rebuilt some time ago, but no...

    It's been sitting!

So I fired it up yesterday, and it was running like crap. No low end power, right side was popping and cracking and with each pop I got a nice blue cloud. Took the plugs out, and put in some newer hotter plugs and she smokes better than ever! I will try riding again tonight after it gets dark...

The most awesome deal that could ever be had on an XS650... ever

Got the insurance taken care of. Went for the first real ride last night! I've got some issues to sort out: Rear brake pedal engages too low and doesn't come all the way back up, right cylinder seems to be running lean and causing a crackle in the exhaust when maintaining speed (not...

    It's been sitting!

So I finally got my insurance sorted out yesterday, and took it on the road last night. Smoked like a BBQ for the first few miles then started cleaning up. At the moment, it seems only to smoke at idle, but it's hard to tell in the dark, so I will ride it again today after I get home in the...

The most awesome deal that could ever be had on an XS650... ever

Anyone run into an issue with the insurance company trying to get their bike covered? For whatever reason, there seems to be an issue with the VIN number of my bike in their system. My bike was manufactured in 8/80, which means it has the older style manufacturers VIN/Serial number. Supposedly...

Thinkin about starting an xs club in portland

I am not far away from having my 81 on the road again. Hopefully I can get up there to Portland before the weather turns sour for the rest of the year.... there really aren't any XS650s down here in Salem that I've seen. ~Revanoff2~

The most awesome deal that could ever be had on an XS650... ever

Idle hang issue is cured! I'm not sure exactly why, but when running it yesterday, the idle climbed all on its own which allowed me to lower the idle screw, and now the problem is cured. I have a suspicion concerning the piston rings as the cause for this. She is no longer smoking blue, but...
