Any Recommendations for a Good Set of Metric Wrenches?

Cheap wrenches will cause more harm and expense in the long run than spending the money on a good set. HF has its place for throw away tools, but not your good set. You do not need to go snap on, though if you spend enough time on CL and at yardsales you can build a set for pretty...

    Princess Auto fuse block

Where did you get that one. I have been looking for that. I redid mine with one similar but it was the put together yourself type. I am not happy with how loose it all is in in there.

You might want to watch this, but you've been warned...

I disagree, never had to on the bike, but I have avoided more than one car accident by doing exactly what you would not think is the right thing. AKA accelerating into a stopped car to shoot the gap. Once you have spent enough time riding and driving/racing off road, there is no norm...

You might want to watch this, but you've been warned...

Once you commit, stick! Many times the instinct feels wrong but is right. No so much on the 650, but on the 996 I have put myself in situations where it is more important to just trust what the bike can do and 'ride it out' than to try to force what you want.

Neutral light stays on in gear

So I went out and tinkered a bit with it. The wire from the front of the bike is light blue, no tracer, the rearward one is blue with yellow tracer. I eliminated the 'diode' and it seems to be working fine again. If I am understanding correctly all that that serves to do is to activate...

Neutral light stays on in gear

Thanks Leo. I assume there may have been some diode or resistor in there, it was broken though so I reconnected it. I think this may be where I am having issues. I will try unplugging it and playing around with the volt meter some. Good information, I should be able to track it down...

Neutral light stays on in gear

No have not looked at the switch yet, seems odd that it would appear at the same time that the other work was done.

Neutral light stays on in gear

I had some electrical gremmins that I tracked down and thought I fixed. Cleaned my rotor and replaced the fuse block with a blade style set up. Bike is running better than it ever has. However I found this (see picture) broken wire/jumper/ what ever it is. I soldered it back together...

    Flux Core Welding

Shy of changing a liner and a tip, I have never run across a machine that could not take those sizes. And even so, you have a wide range on a liner, as long as it is not too small.

how much should one pay for a basket case?

UK/AUS guys, find a friend who has a business with a fedex/ups what ever hook up with high volume. Things get very cost efficient to ship even over seas. I am sure there are plenty on here who would pick parts up for you local and send them on a one way trip. $250 is a good deal if you...

    Flux Core Welding

Home Depot and Tractor Supply both carry 0.025 and occasionally 0.023. Local Napa Parts stores also often have a good supple of welding supplies. Some times you have to ask as they can be tucked away, but they normally have them. Can also always go to amazon/ebay/ internet

    Flux Core Welding

0.030 is pretty thick for a 110 flux core set up. Try some 0.023/0.025 wire. I have had much better results with running smaller gauge wire in my 110 unit, much more selection when it comes to heat and speed control, combined with a few (20) years of knowing how to move the metal around...

    Best riser bushings?

My riser bushings are shot on my 82, like the bars move up and down over an inch. I see there are some solid ones, but not sure I want to go that route, does anyone make a poly set up for this? Or should I just get a new set of rubber ones? What is the best place to get them from? Thanks

Record No.6 Bench Vise. Anybody know anything about them

I scored a Wilton C3 a few years back for $25. Tore it down, blasted and painted it. HUGE vice, but awesome vice.

    Help with education costs.

$4000 over 730 days is $5.48 a day. I can think of about 20 ways to save that out of my daily spending off the top of my head.

Got a new Toy this weekend, a Welder

Little trick if you are having issues finding a liner for 'your' welder. With a bit of understanding on how it is being held in place and a cut off wheel, you can make a generic liner (miller for ex) fit most machines. I do not own a miller yet only run their liners, because they are cheap and...

Got a new Toy this weekend, a Welder

I have used the HF helmets, they are not the worst, but mine had a nasty habit of not darkening if you were at an odd angle. I broke down and bought a Miller Elite. It is worth every penny. I also recently picked up 2 110 mig units for $100, put a liner in the one and it is running great...
