Erratic voltage *** Solved bad coil

Problem solved. A bad coil was grounding out and causing the big voltage spikes. I disconnected the charging system and was still getting erratic readings. I put both of my multimeter leads on the the head and kicked it over and the spikes were showing on the meter every time I kicked it...

Erratic voltage *** Solved bad coil

This is a very nice troubleshooting guide. I will work through it step by step and respond when I am done. I don’t have alligator clip test probes for my meter, which is required, so I will have to get some. Thank you very much for your response.

Erratic voltage *** Solved bad coil

I bought the harness from mikes xs. It is for xs2 and tx650. Not all of the wire colors match the diagram and they could not provide a cross reference. I also included a pic of the other regulators (vr115) and rectifiers that I tried using. This morning I tried a spare stator that I have with...

Erratic voltage *** Solved bad coil

When I check voltage with the bike running my multi-meter goes berserk! It goes from single digits up to 20 or 30 back and fourth and its barely readable. I tried another meter with similar results. This motor was in my other xs and charging fine before I swapped it into my 73. It is a 78...

Mikes xs xs2 tx650 main wire harness *** solved bad coil

Thanks for the response. I will have to look over the diagrams and see if the colors on the harness match up. I have all of the lights and the horn working. The bike runs but I have erratic voltage readings. I think that the problem may lye in the 6 pin connector that goes to the stator. I...

Mikes xs xs2 tx650 main wire harness *** solved bad coil

I have the main wire harness for a tx650 from mikes. The wire colors are not the same as original. I messaged them but they do not have a cross reference. Does anyone have experience with this harness? Do the colors correspond to the colors on a different year possibly?

    Solid state regulator rectifier help

Thanks to your link I found the perfect diagram that matches my unit. The only thing I am missing is a ground from the green wire of the reg/rec that goes to the brush. I will add that and if that doesn’t work than It is definitely toast. edit: I just checked the black wire from the brush...

    Solid state regulator rectifier help

I just swapped that motor from a bike that was charging properly with the old components so unless I have made an error in my wiring than the regulator is bad. My meter couldn’t get any kind of steady reading. It was all over the place. It was unreadable.

    Solid state regulator rectifier help

I have read a ton of stuff about this but I dont seem to have it right. This is a regulator rectifier that I had on my bobber years ago and it worked good. The bike runs, the lights, blinkers, and horn work. When I go to test the battery voltage, when running, my meter goes berserk. The...

1973 tx650 outer fork tube interchange

I disassembled my fork to change the seals. There is a crack in the area of the seal. Rather than try to seal the crack I would like to replace it with a good part. There are some forks from tx500 on ebay. The part numbers for the outer tube are the same except for the prefix. Does anyone...
