    Only firing on one cylinder.

Thanks for all the advice! I set the floats to 24mm from the gasket seat to the top of the floats. I then made sure they were level. I cleaned the carbs and put them back on but the left carb is still over flowing. I put both floats in a container full of water with a lid to keep them submerged...

    Will do! Thank you!

    Only firing on one cylinder.

My 1975 XS with bs38 carbs was idling and running great a day ago. The only problem is that the carbs were dumping fuel out of the over flow! I bent the tabs on the floats so that they would stop pouring gas everywhere lol. This stopped the gas from coming out of the over flow but the right...

    Installing Mikes xs wiring harness

Great advice thank you! One last thing. When I rebuilt the engine I lined the cam mark up in the center at top dead center. Is that sufficient to keep it from having timing issues? Also, do I just attach a battery terminal to any red wire that reaches or is open?

    Installing Mikes xs wiring harness

I didn't think that the orange and gray double connection looped back out of the harness with a single connection! Thank you this is exactly what I needed to know! The rest of the harness seems simple enough. The problem I'm having with it is that I am not running most of components on the...

    Installing Mikes xs wiring harness

Hello everyone, its been a while since I've posted but I have finally gotten around to wiring the bike. The trouble I'm having is connecting the coils. The wiring diagram shows one of each coil wires connecting to the red/white wire on the harness. The other wire on each coil is then connected...

    Xs650b simplified wiring

I have not been able to find specifically what I'm looking for so thought I would ask. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for an xs650b that is just headlight, tail light, and kick only? I have seprate reg/rec and points ignition with stock charging system.

    1975 XS650B

Thank you 5twins! I appreciate how quickly you have responded with such great info. When you say bead blasting does this mean glass? On another note; would heavy metal shaving in my oil filter be a broken down sump or a loose came chain chattering against the bottom case where it meets the jugs?

    1975 XS650B

That's a relief I think I will go to yamaha for the new valve. Could I media blast the head without taking the guides out? Would it be better to dip the engine parts in parts cleaner?

    1975 XS650B

I have some questions about my 1975 XS650B. When I pulled the engine and began to drain the oil I noticed some metal shavings. When I took the oil filter out of the right side cover it also had some metal shavings. Where could this come from? I would also like to know a couple things about...

    Bent exhaust valve

Lol, sounds like I'm going to outsource this to a local shop. Any good web sights that sell quality parts for these bikes?

    Bent exhaust valve

Thanks for the responses. I think I will replace all guides and seals as well as the valves. Could I do this myself or is it something I should get done at a shop?

    Bent exhaust valve

That makes sense. The bike has been dropped while running and while being moved and has been run all out without a tachometer so a good chance it was over revving. Think any of these things could do it as well? Also, is it as simple as replacing the valve and guide to solve the problem or...

    Bent exhaust valve

I was loosing my mind with my carbs thinking they were the problem for my weird lean and rich symptoms but then noticed my exhaust valve wasnt closing all the way. So I took the opportunity to clean and paint the whole bike plus do a rebuild on the engine. When I opened it up I found a bent...

    BS38 Carburetor Issues

I have dismantled the bike. I took the headers off and realized that the inside of my engine had carbon and oil throughout and very built up. I also am sure I have a leaking valve on the left side cylinder I need to address. My hopes are too eliminate some of my carb problems by going with a...

    BS38 Carburetor Issues

So I have a problem of black carbon fouled plugs. They both get carbon fould very quickly almost as soon as the bike is running?... I put in brand new plugs today after installing new floats and within a couple seconds of running I pulled them and they ere all black.

    BS38 Carburetor Issues

That's what I thought. My hope is that after getting new floats it should solve the too rich problem. Thank you for the info on timing. I really had no idea how to go about it lol. I've had this bike for almost a year now and have never ridden it for more than 20 minutes. It is my first bike...

    BS38 Carburetor Issues

I believe that the carbs do have some function to share over flow of fuel. Otherwise the left side petcock could not fill the right carb all the way to the top and up the fuel line. In fact even when the right side fuel line is disconnected from the petcock and the left petcock is turned to the...

    BS38 Carburetor Issues

I also checked and the suction i feel coming through the exuahst pipe while cranking the bike is happening during the intake stroke in the left cylinder. I think perhaps my valve isn't closing all the way or the seal around the valve could be deteriorated. Could adjusting the tappet help seal...

    BS38 Carburetor Issues

Went out to the bike shed to get a video of my problem when I got distracted by my box of new carb hardware. Before I knew it I was swapping parts lol. Changed the pilots from 45 to 47.5 and the mains from 127.5 to 130. I put new o-rings on the needle jets and installed the carbs. I changed...
