    clutch push rod bearing

Without the pushrod bearing, your clutch throw-out bearing shouldn't have enough travel to actually disengage the clutch. With an extra pushrod bearing you wouldn't be able to get the left hand sidecover back on without forcing the clutch to disengage. Pop the sidecover back on and see if...

How do I tighten my drive chain? Pics help.

WRT keeping the axle straight.. My theory is that making the space between the tire and the swing arm even on both sides is a much better estimate of if the rear axle is straight than trying to measure the distance from the zerks to the the axle. My theory also assumes that my (spoked)...

    Where to find engine number?

Quick question: I need the engine number to title my bike in MN. Where is the engine number located on XS's? I looked around a bit last season and didn't find.

    Bike dumps power at WOT

Is this true? Would mufflers designed for a much larger engine be more restrictive? I was starting to think that the bike might be running too lean at WOT and to rich at mid ranges from ???

Rubber plug is present and not cracked. I replaced the o-rings and washers two years ago.

    Bike dumps power at WOT

I have an 81SH (BS34). Did the Mikes 1.5" headpipes w/ dynaglide mufflers and pod air filters. The jetting is stock except for 135 mains. The carbs were sync'ed by a shop. The bike is running a bit rich, I can smell -some- unburned fuel on idle and the plugs are a bit dark but never wet...

Bike feels like it lost compression over night...

I bet your clutch needs adjustment. I would bet that the kickstarter is going down without actually turning the engine, the clutch is slipping. I did this and thought the same thing last year. Let the clutch adjustment screw under the small cover in the left sideplate out and then kick to see...

Where or how did you find your XS650 ?

I found mine IN a gun shop in Deer Lodge, MT. Some guy had traded it towards a Beretta 9mm the day before. I think the shop owner really didn't know what he had and he let it go for $500.

    Electrical

It would be wise to run at least a fuse on your main lead coming off your positive terminal to your peripheral system (in this case just headlight and brakes). This way if you get a short the fuse burns out instead of your charging system or peripheral system or you start a fire. Maybe someone...
