    Blow-By Attachments To Pods

I also wondered the same thing, and figured I was going with what is hopefully the lesser of 2 evils. So far OK.

    Let's See The XS's

I think I sat on that bike while Dave was building it. He does awesome work, and helped me keep the XS650 spirit alive while I was wandering through the woods with other bikes. I've been able to see some of Dave's other builds--in progress and finished. All very inspiring and educational!

    Blow-By Attachments To Pods

No criticisms taken--no harm no foul. When getting around to doing the mod, I actually forgot about the number of other threads I had seen that discussed this issue. I have also noticed that later stock air boxes had barbs for the breather hoses, and I remember the PCV valve on a...

    Homemade Tachometer Part

Another great 650 Jedi shares his powers with us Padawans! Clearly, much Force you used in making this Hammer/Wrench/Saber yours! 2 thoughts . . . 1. Leatherman has got nuthin on you. 2. I hope you're not a proctologist. That thing looks like something from the Middle Ages. If...

    Gotta love CHEAP spray paint

We Padawans are indebted to all you great 650 Jedis! There are still many Jedi mind tricks I have yet to learn. "I am the buyer you are looking for." "This is the best offer you will ever get." "Dirty old men need love too." I was eyeballin' the '70 in Lander last year. I even called...

    upgrading carb hardware

When I didn't have a hand impact tool, I was able to make due by cutting slots into the already mutilated screw heads. I used a hacksaw or dremel cutting wheel, whichever fit best. Good luck.

    Blow-By Attachments To Pods

I replaced my stock air filters with pods, and recently figured out a way to run my blow-by hoses into the back of my new pods. The fixtures are from ACE, and cost about 5 clams each. Each fixture needs two large nuts (insert Michael Scott comment here). One stops the fixture from butting...

    Homemade Tachometer Part

It is indeed. 5/8 SAE. I assume the -18 is for fine thread. I'm pretty sure an M16 fine thread would have been best, but the local ACE didn't go past M14. So I tried the SAE fine thread drawers and lucked out with the 5/8. As noted, it might be off a little, but if it works as well as...

    Homemade Tachometer Part

I fabbed a part for the bike this week, and wanted to pass along the idea in case anyone needs something similar. The missing part was the threaded attachment on the RH engine cover for the tach cable to thread onto. A PO lost it and held things together, mostly, with wire. I mainly used a...

    Gotta love CHEAP spray paint

And I'm in CO . . . :banghead: Do you find them mostly via Craiglist, etc., or word of mouth?

    Finally done

Well done! Dude—I'm in Colorado Springs. So is the fellow who bought the Scrambled 650 in Brit Racing Green from Ketchup. We need to organize. But only loosely so as not to take the fun out of it. The BMAC—British Motorcycle Association of CO—is another option. Like all cool bike...

    Gotta love CHEAP spray paint

Lucky! My first 650 was given to me, and it came with a parts bike. There were others sitting around town. Now I can't find jack. But my friend Dave in WI finds them all over the place.

    Luthor's Build

Lex . . . Yes, very very dirty underneath. The engine is still in the bike. My "build" will be here and there while the bike still runs. Have to, until I get my 1st gen Toyota 4x4 on the road again. Brian . . . Love the "heat the engine" first ploy. I look forward to trying that...

    Rebuildable Shocks

It's time to replace the rear shocks on the 75 650. Are there any shocks out there that average owners can rebuild themselves? I can find Youtube videos for rebuilding mono shocks and snowmobile shocks, as well as videos for making a spring compressor to remove the springs on standard...

    Luthor's Build

Wow! So that's what it's supposed to look like under there! Seriously. I replaced my clutch last weekend, and in order to drain the oil, I had to remove the sump plate because the drain plugs would not budge at all. Which was fine because I wanted to clean the sump filter anyway. But I...

    75 650B Gaiters Added

Unfortunately, I don't know--I got 'em off ebay. But the seller said he got them from 650central. For 10 clams and free shipping, I grabbed them.

    Clutch Spring Cap Screw Modification

I replaced my clutch this weekend, and I made this mod to my clutch bolts. I also enjoyed the luxury of doing it at my brother's machine shop where I used a lathe to drill out the hole and remove the old threads. In a nod to Mother's Day, when done I handed the old threads that look like...

    High Praise For Uncle Ken

My first xs650 was a '75 that a friend gave me. He never could iron out its charging problems, so he gave it to me when someone else gave him a sweet Honda v45. I was lucky to find Uncle Ken online somehow back then. Not only was he helpful in clearing up the charging problems, he also...

    Luthor's Build

Hey Lex. Just found your build thread today and love all of it! I figured out bag & tag in the winter of 1989/1990 when I rebuilt my first engine—a 1200cc motor from a 1963 VW Bug. Every nut and bolt went into a ziplock bag, the bag got labeled with the part the fasteners came from, and...

    75 650B Gaiters Added

I finally got around to replacing my fork seals and adding gaiters. I also did some tune-up work—new coils, wires, caps, and Iridium plugs. I adjusted cam tension, reset the gap on the points, and set the timing. Dang near runs like a new bike!
