    too hot, cuts out

About 1100. Only does it when the weather is really hot. I've left it idling in the garden for 10 mins on a cooler day with no probs.

    squeeking choke

XS Leo.... I must have had a moment there, My Norton is a 74 but the yam is a 77. Good to see knowledgeable members on the ball. Dogbunny...Took the cover off the choke ( no loose screws) and sprayed all the holes with carb cleaner, put back together and no squeak, wonderfull. I will invest...

    squeeking choke

Thanks for the replies guys. Mine has a single cable going to the left hand carb which connects to a spindle that opens both carbs. Likewise the choke is just a lever on the left and is connected to the right via a solid round bar which raises a needle on each carb. There is a rubber seal on...

Thanks Brian. I`m using 20-30 oil which the manual states. I've just looked at the old stanchions, at the bottom there is a fitted sleeve which contains a very small and weak spring. This I removed but it wont fit into the new stanchions as they already have a non removable sleeve fitted but...

    topping out forks

Hello all, I have a 1977 D model. I have just replaced fork stantions and springs, what a difference, but the forks are now topping out badly. Its a big thud of metal to metal. I notice some other models have a spring on the Damper body to stop this. The manual of my model doesn't show...

    Diodes and resistors

Thanks for the info Leo, so if I remove the light checker and reserve lighting unit, all should work ok. I don't know if these work anyway its just a big jumble of wires. There is so many in the headlight shell that its hard to close. Thanks again chris r

    Diodes and resistors

Hi all, I`m in the middle of rebuilding a 1977 model D. Now the wiring is a bit of a mystery. There are components on the bike that do not appear to be used like the light checker, reserve lighting unit, Diode, resistor and the brake lining switch. The question is do I need a diode and resistor...
