Got the bungs welded on the pipes for the O2 sensor that's used during the dyno run. The shop that I'll be going to is on vacation this week so I should be able to haul the bike down there next week. Also, does anyone that's following this thread know where I can get a 16 tooth primary...

Also wanted to add that on one lap during practice I was able to carry enough speed to spin the engine up to 8440 RPM. That seemed a little high from a longevity standpoint but I didn't bother to change it because I didn't have the sprockets to make it happen (although I could have borrowed...

I'm the sixth rider coming down the track in the video. Rode the famous Sacramento Mile Sunday and the twin did pretty well all in all. It had teething problems but that's to be expected especially when I have zero experience with these bikes. The allen bolt in the pic seized and so I ended...

Jack I found a bike shop about an hour from my town that has a dyno. I'll be visiting them this week to talk about dyno time and once I have my air/fuel mixture guage set up, I'll be taking a few videos of the bike on the dyno along with a graph of the dyno results.

Well I got it dirty today and overall it ran really well. I was surprised. It's pretty much raceable. And like any framer I've ever ridden, the faster you go the better it handles. Next stop is The Sacramento Vintage/Amateur Mile on 5/31. Sorry zxpete, I wasn't able to find anyone that...

I needed to do something about sealing the steering head bearings from dirt so I got a bearing guard from A&A racing for the top and had to improvise with the lower bearing with some dense foam. As far as how the engine it's running.... Obviously its running a little rich! I've been...

xpete, as the bike is sitting in the picture (off the stand of course) my magnetic angle finder shows a steering head angle of 24 degrees. That seems a little steep. Doug Horner at VMC frames said it's supposed to be set up to 26 degrees. I don't trust my angle finder because my stock framed...

Turns out I had an oil leak at the clutch side cover. Found a tear in the gasket. Not sure it that happened before or after I removed the side cover. Going to try and re seal the gasket with silicone. Boy that flat tracker looks natural in that position doesn't it? Once I...

Well I got it started today and I'm pretty happy. No smoke, no leaks and it runs decent. It seems like it's running on one cylinder when the throttle is cracked just a bit (check the video at about 0.55 seconds). Also my tach is reading like 4k rpm when it's just above idle. Like it's...

Just about ready to start. Just need to bleed the brake, add oil and double check some of the fastners. The pic shows how the carbs ended up. The carb mounts got welded on the inside (tubing to the flange). The port matching isn't perfect but it'll have to do for now. Also the air cleaner...

Thanks for the tip 650. A little late now tho. I would have left it bare if I'd known it made any kind of difference. The paint is strictly for looks. Here's some more pics of my progress. One side is finished except for welding. I tried to get a shot of how the carbs look before and...

Ok, this is what I have so far. The tubing is 6061 aluminum mandrel bent from Vibrant performance and is meant for intake systems and intercoolers. The flange of the carb mount will be cleaned up and profiled of course. I will also be attaching a piece of tubing to the intake bell of the carb...

Thanks Signal, this helps. Finding bits of info like this is what this forum is all about :) Ok, so I trimmed 3/8" from the hose and 1/4" from the carb mount which brings the carb closer to the engine by 5/8". Then add the thickness of the gasket and the pic shows where the carb sits in...

I noticed when reading the product description for some copper washers I bought from Mike's that some of the washers can be used for the clutch cover bolts. For those that are reading, can anyone tell me which bolts on the clutch cover take copper washers? Is it the four long bolts around the...

Yes it can. The carb holder can be shortened too. But it's not just the length that's the problem. The angle is wrong too (hard to see in the pic). Making the carb fit will be relatively easy. It's how to make the air cleaner clear the frame.

Before I installed the engine in the frame I made up this rudimentary swing arm stand. Then I got the engine mounted and started working on the coil mount and coil wires. Once that was done I hooked up the pipes and started working on the wiring harness and kill switch connections. Then I had...

34mm The gains you get from anything bigger seem like a waste and I figure the smaller bore will give me a better metering signal

I never race AHRMA or VDTRA events and the only AMA rulebook that applies here is the Vintage Dirt Track National Championship rulebook and I don't race in that series either. Most of the promotors I race under are very relaxed about vintage rules. Some of them are AMA sanctioned but they...

I've heard that about this cam and long rod combo so that's why I decided to go with it. I'm not that great of a tuner and I don't have a flow bench so I leave the horsepower making numbers up to other guys and I just put it all together. Took delivery of these bad boys the other day. It's...

Well I finally buttoned up the engine for the last time. Got the Megacycle 250-30 cam degreed in to the "straight up" position with all clearances checked. The Shell cam covers I have are machined funky (maybe they're defective). The shoulder on the inside of the cover isn't machined...
