Are my head and valve cover ruined??

The worst thing is that I told the guy I wanted it soda blasted. But apparently they knew better, and bead blasted it. Next time I'll have everything blocked off before I take it in. cra-z1 - I've never seen walking dead. Maybe have to catch a few episodes while I'm scrubbing my engine!

Are my head and valve cover ruined??

Thanks for the replies. I did get the blasting done for free, due to the fact that it took the guy seven months to get to it. Not that it mattered too much, it was a cold Vermont winter. I haven't checked out the rest of the engine yet, who knows how well it was protected. A huge mistake...

Are my head and valve cover ruined??

Just got my head, cover, jugs, and cases back from blasting. Despite asking for soda blasting, they were bead blasted, including the seats for the cam bearings. I've attached a couple of pictures. Is this going to ruin the head and cover? Thanks for any help, Terminus

    Luthor's Build

Thanks for the rundown on your setup. How often does your compressor kick on, or how much do you have to wait when blasting? Can you get 30 seconds continuous? More? I've been eyeballing one of these - http://www.harborfreight.com/pressurized-abrasive-blaster-68994.html, but I'm not sure that...

    stock hub, new rear rim

Initially, I did want the look. But now after kind of thinking aloud on this thread, I'm tending more towards performance. Gotcha. Makes perfect sense. Gotta consider the whole system. I'll keep looking into it, but I think right now that I'll go with Shinko 712 tires, and Mike's XS rims...

    stock hub, new rear rim

Thanks guys, for all the information. I was planning on using the Firestone Deluxe Champion tires; they are specifying a 2.15 rim. However, according to the pdf from 4g, I can go 2.5 on the rim. 2Many, thanks for the links. Exactly what I was looking for. I'll sit down tonight and read...

    stock hub, new rear rim

A 2.5 rim? My understanding is that a 130/90 is about the biggest tire I can get on the rear, and the ones I've seen call for a 2.15 rim. I'd definitely go a little wider if I thought I could. I've laced up some bicycle wheels before, and frankly, the motorcycle wheel looks easy. As far as...

    Luthor's Build

Lex - great thread, really inspiring to see a guy do such a nice build with minimal space and gear. Speaking of which - what was your blasting setup? I'm wanting to blast some of my own parts, but I don't have a 220 circuit, and can't afford a huge compressor. What size were you using? What...

    stock hub, new rear rim

I have a 79 special that i want to put an 18" rear wheel on. I'm going to use the same hub, just buy a new rim and relace the wheel. Will any 2.15 x 18 x 36 spoke rim work? It seems like it would; the only problem I can foresee is if the spokes coming out of the hub don't line up properly...
