    Brake Bleeding Issues, Aftermarket MC

So I just got an eBay master cylinder to put on my bike, 1/2" bore. I'm having some issues bleeding it, I get nothing but fluid from the caliper but it doesn't build up enough pressure to light the brake light until almost the end of the handle travel. I'm assuming I'm trapping air in the...

    75 XS650 Clutch Adjustment

I know there are plenty of threads on this but I couldn't find what I was looking for. If this has already been answered, please just point me in the right direction. I've got a '75 mild cafe, with clubmans. I have what I would consider to be too much (or almost too much) play on the clutch...

    Smiles' Top End Rebuild Thread

Yet another top end rebuild thread! I've been on and off with this bike for quite some time, and finally decided to pull the trigger on that cam chain guide replacement. 5twins was a huge help in helping me figure out all the parts and tools I needed. The thread can be found here...

Cam Chain Guide Replacement Parts List

Hi all, I'm gearing up to replace the cam chain guide on my '75 and I was hoping to get some input on my parts list. I'm trying to get it all done for $400 or less, here's what I've got (all from Mike's XS): Premium gasket and seal kit: 18-0001 Cam chain guide: 05-0006 Cam chain: 52-5021...

Cam Chain Guide on a '75

Hi all, Some top end noise and black/metal bits in the oil screen lead me to believe 'Ol Blue needs a new cam chain guide. While I'm in there, what are some other things to check? If at all possible, my budget is around $400, which know may be pushing it. Thanks!

    Sheet metal bending

I'm trying to start doing some of my own fabrication. What are you all using to bend sheet metal? I'd like something that doesn't brake (heh) the bank. Does anyone have some info for me?

    Trail Tech Vapor with PAMCO

I know there's plenty of threads on the Vapor, but I didn't see anything to answer my question. Maybe I overlooked it, so feel free to direct me to another thread. I've seen conflicting comments on using this dash with a PAMCO ignition. Has anyone done this? I think this dash would look great...

    Newfound interest. Favorite mods?

Hello everyone, It's been a while since I've relied on all of your infinite knowledge. I recently decided that I wanted a bike that was easier to ride at highway speeds, and something I felt more comfortable riding long distances. Unfortunately, my '75 mild cafe did not seem to fit the bill, so...

    Another clutch cable question

Hello all, I recently replaced my clutch cable with an ez cable from 650central. Now I know that it is expected to stretch while I use it. I am noticing that the adjustment loosens up while I ride, but after it sits it is adjusted correctly. What could be causing this?

Should I tear into my engine?

Hi all, Some of you may have seen an earlier post of mine about some top end noise I've been noticing on my '75. Here's a video: I replaced my tappets (stock ones were pitting pretty bad), checked cam chain tension, and set my valves (.002" on the intake and .004" on the exhaust)...

    Clutch coming out of adjustment

So I was riding my '75 the other day. As I was riding, the clutch lever came way out of adjustment. Thinking the adjuster nut thing on the perch just came loose, I tightened it up and went on my way. It was fine until I was just riding a little bit ago and the same thing happened. The adjuster...

    Top End Noise

So I just adjusted my cam chain tension and set my valves on my '75. I hear this noise coming from the top end. Seems to go away off idle. Granted, that may just be because the bike is louder. It sounds a bit worse in the video, but it is still concerning. Any ideas what it is? Thanks!

One side rich, one side lean

Ok so my bike was getting a high idle at stop lights, so I decided to check the plugs. Clearly one side is rich and one is lean. How much of an adjustment should be made to the mixture screws? I have pods, free-er exhaust, and vm34s. I would tell you the jets if i remembered. Here's to hoping I...

Electrical and rear end question, possible engine question

Ok. 1975 XS650, pods, free-er exhaust, pamco, clubmans, brat seat, shock extensions, blah blah blah. First, the electrical issue. It is intermittent, but sometimes I have no turn signals (front led, rear incandescent, aftermarket flasher), horn, or brake light. Not sure about the tail light...

    Broken key in handlebar lock

Anyone have any ideas as to how to remove the broken key piece from inside the handlebar lock? That was the best picture I could get.

    Sloppy clutch lever

Hi all, the clutch lever on my '75 is pretty sloppy, a lot of up and down play. Is this caused my a worn pivot? If so, is that fixable or do I need a new perch and everything? Thanks!

    Indentify that part/exhaust help

So my neighbor said she saw this part sitting underneath my '75 today. Any ideas what it is? Also, it seems as though I've lost the makeshift baffles that the PO had in the "mufflers," so maybe it's time for new exhaust. Any preferences on who makes good exhaust systems? I'm trying to not...

    1975 Centerstand?

Hello all, Did the '75 originally come with a centerstand? I don't seem to have one, but the PO probably removed it. Where/how are they installed? I may be interested in installing one on my bike. Thanks, Smiles

    Shock extensions?

It's getting warm out and I've been been riding a bit, so time to start asking questions! I want to lift the rear end of my bike up, but I don't really want to spend the money on new shocks (I'm fine with the performance of the stock ones) so I was wondering if there are any sort of shock...

It's that time of year again!

Well it's finally that time of year again. After moving to Wisconsin for an engineering co-op, my '75 will be here in a few hours. We've had some nice weather lately and I'm getting pretty pumped to ride it, haven't done so since I started cafeing it over Christmas. So all of you native...
