    Wanted - Rotor and Stator

I’m looking for a good condition Rotor and Stator for a 1980 XS650 Special. Rotor with magnet and stator with mounting holes for electronic pickup. I believe 80 to 84 are all the same.

    Electric Starter Problem

I have the typical electric starter problem. The starter only engages sometimes, the other times it does not engage and just grinds away. I’ve tried everything I’ve found on this. I’ve tried several different starter clips and #4 gears. I’ve tried tightening the starter clip loop. I’ve tried...

    What Did I Do?

Weekendrider I already tried that. With the side cover removed the clutch is disengaged. It seems when I tried to loosen the adjustment it pushed the rod too far and the clutch is stuck disengaged.

    What Did I Do?

80 XS. I was trying to do a main clutch adjustment. I tried to loosen the lock nut at the left side cover. I could feel it was trying to disengage the clutch but nut would not loosen. The clutch is now disengaged all the time and the kick start is not engaged. What did I break?

    Carburetor Question

5twins – Thanks for your reply. I'm beginning to think your right, it's a sync problem. That seems to be the only thing that makes sense. I did sync the carburetors but that may have been before the bike was running correctly. I may have got them way out of sync. However, the left/#1 cylinder...

    Carburetor Question

They are foam Uni filters not pleated filters. I also understand the backfire type noise without baffling. This is not normal backfire type noise. This sound's more like a 9mm. And why only the left side exhaust? There has to be something different between to two sides. That's what i'm trying...

    Carburetor Question

I have a 1980 Special with BS34 carburetors. It has Uni air filters with shortly mufflers. Compression on both cylinders is about the same. There are no vacuum leaks that I can find. The carburetors were re-build including new throttle shaft seals. The valves were adjusted, the cam chain...

    Progressive Shocks

I recently bought a pair of Progressive 412 shocks for my 80 XS650 Special. Because of the off-set of the bottom eyelet, the shocks mount with the top of the shock tilted inward (equal to the amount of the off-set). Is that a problem?

    Rear Shocks – Again

I agree with you guys 100% about the Koni/Ikon shocks. I bought a pair for my Laverda 1000 last year (2014) for over $400 including shipping. There great shocks and I love them, but I don't want to spend that much for the XS. I think the Progressive Series 12 is more my price range. Dave

    Rear Shocks – Again

I know this has been discussed many times before, but one more time please. I have an 80 XS and I want longer shocks on the rear. I'm building a cafe style bike. The original shocks appear to be about 11.5"long. Any suggestions on length and spring rate? Dave
