    Trailering Questions

To those with trailering experience... what is the minimal size trailer that would handle a stock 76? Tractor Supply has a 4X7 lightweight trailer (350 pounds) that my small car can probably handle just fine. But I don't know if it would be long enough. I'd rather have the bike go straight...

    Cylinder Misfire on Cold Startup

TwoMany... I believe you may have hit the nail on the head. "Sounds like a "too lean" condition on cold startup that resolves itself after it's warmed up a little." I have checked for air leaks in the past, but never on the cold engine. Immediately after I started it the other day, I sprayed...

    Cylinder Misfire on Cold Startup

"Looking at your first post on this thread you stated you checked the compression with your engine warm. Have you checked it cold?" I just checked compression cold, throttle held open. It was 130 on both cylinders. "Diaphragm drop test".. I'll give that a shot. Thanks guys.

    Cylinder Misfire on Cold Startup

Yes... and I have carefully adjusted them from day one. This problem has been occurring since day one as well. The valve train noise is acceptable and consistent from cylinder to cylinder. As soon as I ride off, and for the rest of the day, this problem does not occur. The bike runs and...

    Cylinder Misfire on Cold Startup

I see that I had a similar post about this problem last year. But I have not fixed the problem. 1976, stock, with stock BS38 carbs. My last compression check, done a year ago with warm engine and wide open throttle, was 145 right cylinder and 140 left. That said, the left cylinder has a...

    Front Sprocket Replacement

Per 5Twins recommendation... I sat on my bike, in gear with my foot on the brake, and had my breaker bar pointing straight up. Inserted over my breaker bar was a four foot long piece of iron pipe I use for occasions like these. One forward slightly sharp rap on that pipe with the palm of my...

How quiet can these bikes be?

When I used to go on very early morning Sunday rides, I would walk my Buell about 3 blocks to where there were few residences! My system was quieter than many Harleys you hear, but I guess the "staccato-ness" (?) of it would set off car alarms all over the place!

Thank you, GGG! That's what I was hoping to hear! :)

What is Acceptable Voltage Drop for Resting Battery?

Never gave this much thought before. But I installed a new voltmeter the other day, and while inside the headlight bucket, I cleaned up some wire routing. The bundle from the ignition switch was routed such that the protective sheath was outside the bucket, with the individual wires fed...

Which Uni Filters to use on BS38s

I just installed UNI UP4200 filters on my 76 with BS38s just the other day. Fit perfectly. Perfect fit on the carbs, and not too long. As found in my research on this site (just searched UNI on this site), some main jet changes are probably in order. I'm finding I will need to go richer...

Install a Fuse Between Reg/Rec and Pos Battery Terminal?

Ah! Continued searching and found my answer (XSLeo's answer, really) here: http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22344 So as I gather from XSLeo's explanation, no fuse is needed at this location. I do have the remaining (stock) fuse, as save for the PMA, the system is stock. :bike:

Install a Fuse Between Reg/Rec and Pos Battery Terminal?

1976 XS650C. Stock, but with PMA. I know the answer is somewhere right under my nose, but I haven't found it. And as many of you know, I do not easily comprehend electrical systems. I have replaced my toasted PMA with a new one (complete HHB kit). The old one (Mike'sXS) had the...

Almost Stranded. Troubleshooting Advice for PMA/Stock Points Requested

Success! My work schedule didn't allow me to work on the bike hardly at all... but I finished the PMA installation last night. It is charging perfectly. :bike: I'm obviously not a wiz at electrical systems, but the tests I did suggested the bad PMA, and it was. The PO had done a very...

    National cycle Flyscreen

TeeCat.... can you tell me what bar-end mirrors you have installed? They look like very good ones. Mine are c*** in more ways than one, and I'd like to replace them. BTW... that is a beautiful bike!!! And the screen looks great too. Thanks for sharing your experience. Thanks!

With PMA, Can I Remove OEM Regulator?

Thanks for the explanation and pic, guys. The OEM regulator is definitely gone. I've removed the bad PMA and associated parts, the reg/rec (which may or may not have still been good... thought I'd best play it safe and install the whole kit), and cleaned things up. I've also marked TDC ...

With PMA, Can I Remove OEM Regulator?

Hah! Alrighty then!! Under the regulator page of the Clymers, there was a simple drawing and it looked a lot like that. As I said, my electrical knowledge is ( you can fill in the blank)! I'll leave it in place. Thanks!

With PMA, Can I Remove OEM Regulator?

I'll be installing a replacement PMA and reg/rec from Hugh's today or tomorrow. My previous PMA, which was installed by the PO, is deceased. He never mounted the reg/rec. He simply had hung it over the swing arm with a single zip tie! He also left the OEM regulator in place. I think I'd like...

Almost Stranded. Troubleshooting Advice for PMA/Stock Points Requested

Here's a video I found showing the removal of a Banshee flywheel. Too bad I don't have access to an air impact tool! Flywheel & Stator Yamaha Banshee YFZ350:

Almost Stranded. Troubleshooting Advice for PMA/Stock Points Requested

Ahhh... the plot thickens! LOL. I'm almost positive it's Mike's. The PO, when selling me the bike last year, told me I could find anything at Mike's. And I recall him saying something about electrical parts he had gotten. Here's a pic from one of my first posts. I wanted to time the bike...
