    Bullets, blades and wire.

And get yourself a good crimper. I like the ratcheting type with interchangeable heads.

    Bullets, blades and wire.

Thanks for that. I cringe when I see the colored, hardware store, plastic crimp connectors on cars or bikes.

I use one of those telescoping magnet tools to pull the shims out.

Just out of curiosity - Airplane Guys

I was an admirer of Rickenbacker as well. I introduced him to my son and built him a tribute soap box racer. It wasn't the fastest, but it won First Place.

    The Big Sue resto-mod thread

Love the Suzuki GS series. They have a unique sound. It's a shame you don't see that many of them around anymore. When I do the valves in my Kawasaki's I put the sizes and gaps in a spreadsheet which calculates the correct shim to use. That way you can see what sizes you need and what shims you...

New petcocks leaking on 1979 XS650

One thing to remember: almost all repop parts will be inferior to the factory originals. You are better off rebuilding the Yamaha parts than slapping on cheap replacement parts from China.

What book are you reading right now?

The Brothers Karamazov - Dostoyevsky I read it in college when I was studying Russian History (mid 80's). My son challenged me to read it again since it's his favorite novel and he wrote several papers on it in college. I'm sure there will be a quiz on it later.

    Any vintage car guys here?

All kinds of fun. It's a lot like riding a vintage motorcycle. Like they say, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow.

    Any vintage car guys here?

My current rolling project. This one was "discovered" in a warehouse with 40 other vintage cars. It was the last one they pulled out. I bought it from one of the helpers that day who was sold the car in appreciation for helping clear the other cars out. This 1968 Triumph Spitfire in Royal Blue...

What have you done to your XS today?

I started to but learned the pencil and paper is more convenient. I have six cars, 9 motorcycles, a tractor, a boat and all kinds of yard equipment. I've been keeping track chronologically in a notebook for the last 12 years. Date, mileage, vehicle/equipment and what was done. It works OK but I...

    F'n FB scams

Yeah, I bought something from someone local and he was really suspicious and careful. He seemed relieved when I actually showed up and was legit. He said he always checks the FB profiles first which I thought was a pretty good idea. When I was selling something a few days later a woman...

    My first car

1969 Triumph Spitfire. I was 16 and no one told me not to buy a car from Massachusetts. I had a single 9/16-1/2 combo wrench and a 1/2 socket. That's all. No money, no knowledge, no skill and a Dad who didn't know anything either. I learned as I went and eventually moved the car onto another...
