I'm having some issues with a 81 xs650 , the battery is new and when I go to start it the relay clicks. The lights and speedo all work and when I took the starter cable and touched the positive side of the battery it didnt spin. Is there a way to test the starter with it still on the bike?

Hi I have a brake cam shaft that wont move it seems to be stuck , so i took the brake shoes, springs and the hub with the cam shaft still in it and soaking it in carb and parts cleaner. Is this the proper way to get the brake cam shaft to work again or is there aother method i should be using...
