Brakes - ID and quickfix rec

yep, I already did stainless upgrade a while back, but I'll go you one further: redid them twice cuz the first two braided hoses I got (mikes I think) failed on me after a season or three. Popped right open where the hose meets the coupling, thank f*ck I was just flexing on my brake lever at a...

Brakes - ID and quickfix rec

Thanks for help guys. I'm correct in thinking if I change MC bore I have to change hoses? Thats my main question. Had seen Gggs chart and 5twins reccys, just didn't have this answered anywhere explicitly Had no problems with feel on what I was running, so wondering if it is actually 13...

Brakes - ID and quickfix rec

Can someone help me with an ID? I'd been operating under the assumption that my MC assembly was stock to my 77D, but from what I can gather from forum/manual that's not true? In any case was poking at my misty level-gauge and it crumbled under my fingernail. Yes that's brake fluid coming...

Gas too fancy or narrowly avoided immolation?

Yes. thanks this would explain the discolor. Replaced those lines in June too. Nowhere near as pronounced as the filter degradation but still significant. Bought the tubing off Amazon as well.

Gas too fancy or narrowly avoided immolation?

found the SKU: Bought a 10pk years ago before the "spend a few bucks more" modicum had really sunk into my psyche. Interesting note: the arrow on them specifies the opposite flow direction of any other filters I've used. Maybe should have been a tipoff. sorry Mikes. And yes, selling these...

Gas too fancy or narrowly avoided immolation?

Wow. Well I felt better about my routing and temps until Gary mentioned that gas can boil. Jesus. I realize that's not 212 degree boil, but you may have just sold me on e-bikes (kidding) Much thanks everyone. I will probably be running a fresh pair of these for a week (short a second vehicle...

Gas too fancy or narrowly avoided immolation?

was chasing a slow carb leak on my BS38's, and found these. The two aged ones have been on the bike for maybe 5 months max. The clear one is what they looked like before they went on. Plastic is clouded, yellowed, and even bendy and flexible (unused ones are not any of these things). like either...

Current Rear Brake Switch replacement rec

Happy Saturday, and just a quick one- Broke my OEM rear brake switch ('77 xs650D) today. sleeve cracked, attempting superglue fix, but does anyone have a good recommendation on a replacement? Found a thread from 2014 saying Mike's switch has shorting issues...

What have you done to your XS today?

Yeah, I forgot to mention I used gel stripper. It did make the last remnants of clearcoat very brittle, which was helpful, but zero effect on the metal itself. I'm gonna grab some of the abrasive wheels the guys here recommend, but I don't like waiting. As I understand lustre and longevity are...

What have you done to your XS today?

Polishing badly oxidized rims off my 77D. clearcoat wasn't hard, cuz it was mostly gone. oxidization is next level and responds poorly to all elbow grease. Here is a function that describes my experience: Time + Hand-cramping = Amount of shine Gazillion so far...

Sold / Found / Inactive - New Tires: Shinko E804 (front) and Heidenau K60 (rear) set

Hey Melm, dunno if asking here is right place, but wondering if you like these tires on your XS. I'm considering these (they look great on yours) and wondering how they handle. I'm almost exclusively a street rider, but I like the look. any takeaways appreciated.

Quick diagnosis confirmation - carb/fuel issue?

UPDATE: popped the carbs off, found some metal in the mix tube. like shavings from a stripped thread. no idea where that's from. I think she was losing a cylinder when I rolled on, but she's running now, and not bogging anymore. All good, and on to the next things to fix.

Any body ever seen this? - speedo drive gear fell out?

happened today. installed a new cable yesterday, cuz the old one was shot. heard some squeaking at speed, that I thought might be something rubbing the tire, then a squeal, then this baby. Never seen the inside of that before. Anybody have any tips? I can't separate the cable from the...

Quick diagnosis confirmation - carb/fuel issue?

Been getting my 77d on the road again, after 2 years of sitting and me replacing most of the electric system. And I should probably have given my tank at least a good rinse before using. She's riding, I've been out on her the last 2 weeks, but she's been gradually running worse. Symptoms...

    new ignition system

Hey Jp, I found this thread, and I'm considering the exact same upgrade. Chasing electric issues in a stock 77D, and my stock coils are suspect so I'm considering investing in the 14-0901 kit while I'm screwing around. Just wondering if you went through with this and what your experience was...
