The seals on my foam air filters (1980 XS650 Special) are in need of replacement. Instead of buying new filters, do you think I could use foam weather strip? If not, any other ideas? Thanks!

Just checked the float levels and they are set to 27mm. I think the mechanic was just mistaken when he said 17mm.

I just spoke to the mechanic and they said they set it to 17mm. I guess I will definitely be taking them off and adjusting them myself.

So, again it started right up this afternoon. The battery only had a 26% charge. Again, the battery and stator are new. Could it be the alternator and it not putting out enough charging output? I'm charging the battery and don't know yet if the battery is bad.

Thanks. Good all good info. I likewise assume the worst and didn’t know about the starter and #4 starter gear. It doesn’t sound great. So that could be it. I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few oil changes. Thanks for the help.
